This is (almost) Halloween

I know I haven't been up and around much lately but now that it's October (again), I suppose a bit of Halloween celebration is in order. Now, since our captors have been kind enough to provide a surplus of pumpkins, would anyone like to join me in carving some Jack-o'-lanterns?

A... Jack-o'-lantern? What is that?

[She may have been given important information on the modern era, but she doesn't know everything.]

Miss France... [He thinks she is mad with him, after all the last time he saw her things had been really bad. He is glad to see she looks happier now.] What's a Jackolantern?

[Smiles at and shrugs.]

A little tradition America and England share - you hollow out pumpkins and carve faces on them before putting a candle in. It is meant to protect you from evil spirits during Halloween.

[Smiles warmly at Romeo - how could she ever be mad at him, hm?]

A root vegetable hallowed out with a face carved on it - we put a candle inside to make the face glow. In modern times people tend to favor pumpkins for them, and they're supposed to scare away evil spirits during Halloween, but it's more a novelty.

What a strange custom.... do you really believe that will be able to protect us from the spirits and monsters that roam this tower?

Of course not. I've been quite disillusioned over the centuries of depending on trinkets or Go- [breaks off, not wanting to finish that]

It's just a thing people do in spirit of the season - something which I've seen can help with relaxation. If nothing else, the children should enjoy it.

Would you like a little help with carving? My schedule is simply rushed but for a beauty like yourself I might spare a little time.

[You know his schedule. He's just a brat.]

What's halloween miss? [The pumkins were those vegetables all over the kitchen right? It sounded fun, though he didn't think evil spirits would be scared away with vegetables. That was just silly.] Can we do that miss France? Do we have any candles?

[Jeanne frowns a little at the sudden cutoff. She's sharp - sharp enough to guess what Francisca might have been trying to say. And... she's not angry. Just worried.

But she quickly shakes her head, a smile replacing her frown.]

That certainly sounds like a good idea, if it's something relaxing that people can take joy in. If you need any help, I could certainly lend a hand.

Oh, pick me, jack-o'lanterns are my specialty!

[It's fine she'll just give him a spanking later.]

Oh could you? You most kind and generous person.

[Can you hear that sarcasm and her amusement? She's too fond of you dearie.]

[Smiles with delight.]

Is it? Wonderful! I look forward to having you join in then.

An old European celebration day mon petit. It's supposed to be the one day of the year when the ghosts and creatures of the underworld roam the earth - of course, I've never seen anything of the sort myself but humans like to believe such things. These days it's an excuse for children to get dressed up in costumes and ask for candy from adults.

[Thinks, rubbing her chin.]

I suppose we could try asking the tower administrators for some? I mean, they gave us candles a few months ago-

[Stops abruptly, lips thinning as she remembers the whole massacres with the teddy bears.]

Given your skill with a sword, I'm sure you will - the carving is rather easy.

That's if you aren't surrounded by eager helpers. Who could resist the invitation?

[just going to grin, because yes, he knows.]

You flatter this old woman - as if I could possibly surround myself with eager helpers.

Ah, but there is quite a difference between the skill of a fighter and the skill of an artist, no? I could have all the knowledge I could possibly gather on one, but still fail spectacularly at the other.

Oh you mean All Souls day? That's soon right?

[Costumes and candy... candy was like chocolate which was really tasty... It sounded really fun! Romeo wondered if he and the other kids could make costumes, even if no one had candy to give them.] If you ask nicely I am sure they will... well mister Dax will so maybe you have to ask him specifically.

Yep, totally! Hallowe'en's the best time of year, everyone knows that, so it's important to be good at everything to do with it!
