[ He's back in his little corner of the library... the Compass is still there, he finally has his glass of wine back, and there's a new book open on his desk. ]

I am curious. What does one have to do to be sent back to our own worlds? How is that decision reached by our... caretakers here?

They pull names out of a hat. [A pause, before her expression turns curious.] Though seriously, I'm not sure. But I'm guessing it's a random process.

Is there a way to determine what that process is?

[ Someone didn't get enough sleep last night. That must not be fun, for humans. He didn't even need to sleep, though sometimes, even he felt the need to relax for a while, just like Yeshua did. Though his idea of relaxing was mostly reading a book, sipping wine, and listening to Wagner. ]

Given the wide variety of actors upon the stage, I would say they have a purpose in bringing us here. What I do not understand is why some are sent home, while others are not.

[ Wilhelm knows all about order and chaos. Just not here. The Compass is annoying uncooperative in this place. ]

Perhaps it truly is whim.

I would say perhaps they have a limited amount of space they might use, but I think that isn't the case. And if it is you'd think they'd show more wisdom in their practices of bringing people here.

But they said our worlds were gone, right? I thought the people who left just went.. somewhere else.

I believe they are performing a semi-Darwinian experiment of survival of the fittest. They bring weaker specimens here to test their ability to survive amongst less savory types.

I do not believe that is the case.

[ Let's just say, Wilhelm noticed they overlooked a few details from his own world that wouldn't make sense if his universe was destroyed, now that he's seen a few of them here. ]

[ All he says. He goes right back to staring into the Compass, unless she wants to keep talking. He doesn't shut the terminal off. ]

I am simply curious how they choose who does or does not stay within the Tower. Do they consider this person a threat to them, personally? Are the experiments with them failing? Or are they satisfied with the data they have gathered from the collars?

I'm not entirely sure how they decide who gets to go "home"... but it's not really something you'd want to happen to you.

Is it truly so shocking that people who could keep us in such a place might not be honest with us?

Hmmm... [April tilts her head and thinks over that.] Yeah, it is pretty curious about how and why they choose who stays and goes. Especially since there's a pretty big mix of people here.

But.. they said they were trying to help us. They did.. [ .. she pauses, thinking back on the time in the pods.. ] .. some bad things, but.. I thought it maybe had a reason.

Many who do evil justify their actions by claiming to be 'helping.'

Then you understand why I am not quick to believe everything our 'benevolent' caretakers say at face value.
