Video: Subject 009, Experiment Fifteen

During our researches to find more information and truths about this tower, I managed to retrieve this video.

I do not trust I will be able to keep it forever, hence I need as many people as possible to watch it so the administrators cannot delete it from our minds. Please be warned that its content may be shocking.

Th-this video....where did you find it?!

What... what the hell is this?!

[She has a feeling she knows what this is about. She doesn't bother to anon herself. The retrieval unit right behind her would negate the whole point of it anyway. Still, anybody nearby might hear her whisper to herself, "So you did manage to find something." She sounds relieved.]

Did you find out anything else while you were researching?

[She'll look at the video in a moment, but this is more important. Every little bit could help.]

[He feels sick. He was dragged back out just... to see this? He's shaking, and he can only manage to type out one word before he has to leave. He can't take this.]

[It's a while before she can swallow the bile and panic that comes with watching a vivisection, not only because of the inherent depravity of the act, but also because she remembers watching something similar in a much more personal situation over a year ago.

Her voice is weak and hoarse when she finally does speak.]

"All towers are for research." Goddesses... what could they have possibly been trying to accomplish? That poor girl...

[At around the halfway point, France has to find a trash bin to puke into. He's seen a lot of awful things in his life, but the vivisection of a child? It's more than he can take.

It takes a while for him to compose himself enough to reply, and even then, his fingers tremble.]

I can't wtach that awful thing the wholew ay through. Whatare we suppsoed to be looking for/

[Lancer does the only thing he can do after watching this video. He puts his fist through the screen of the console in rage and disgust.]

[America hasn't seen it happen to someone this small, but he's seen it happen for real and up close and personal enough even if he wasn't been cut into. And so--]

What's destructive testing?

[Maybe it says something a bit concerning, that America looks concerned, sympathetic, sad--but other than that, he doesn't really react at all.]

America you shouddln't be wathcing this!

[It's just so horrible...]

[America smiles, even though he's just looking at text on a screen. It's a sort of "everything is fine because I've decided it's going to be fine" smile that looks too old for America because it's something he shouldn't have yet but that France has probably seen on his older self before.]

It's okay. It wasn't a real close up picture.

[ ordinarily he would've just left it after seeing the video, because what is there really to say about this kind of thing... ]

Exactly what it seems to be, I'd presume.

[ no inflection, just very drained. ]

[There's a look on her face somewhere between shocked, disgusted and unspeakably angry, and off camera her hand is gripping the hilt of her sword so tightly her knuckles are white under the gauntlets.]

What... what could possibly be the point of that?! Who would do something like that, and why?!

[He's definitely seen it, but it looks out of place on this America in an eerily subtle way. This isn't how someone his age should react to a video like that, human or nation.]

That doesn't matter at all!

I think it's scarier up close. [He states it matter-of-factly, though there's a definite emotional disconnect at work.]

But that... that's....

[He motions wildly with his hands.]

Who the heck would do that to a kid?!

[Another wave of nausea hits him straight in the gut. He tells himself to change the subject. He doesn't want to know. He doesn't want to know. He doesn't want to know--]

[America's face breaks. For an instant, he looks terrified and devastated, as if his whole world was crumbling right in front of him.

He's seen it before. He remembers, he's seen it, and he screamed and screamed and screamed--]

[But then the expression is gone, and his face doesn't have anything left on it.]

It was a year ago. So it doesn't matter for stuff happening now.

[For a long moment, France rests with his elbows on the desk and his face in his hands. He's always known that terrible things must have happened to the people he cares about in here; it's not like it's ever been a secret that bad things happen in the Tower. But France hasn't been here for very long, and he's only seen a select amount of atrocities. The others he only heard stories about, and without seeing them happen right in front of his face, he'd managed to convince himself it was all okay.

Selfishly, foolishly, some part of him had decided, "If I don't know about it, it couldn't have happened." But the proof was always there, in how the people he knew outside of the Tower looked and acted. He'd just chosen to ignore it, explain it away and hope that eventually things would fall into place on their own and go back to normal.

He'd been trying so, so hard to make that a reality.

He doesn't want to look back up at America's face. He knows that look, that brief, unnatural terror followed by an absence of anything at all. It's more at home on war veterans. And it's terrible seeing it on anyone at all, but whenever he sees that look on a child's face - even a nation "child" - he knows something has gone terribly wrong.

He draws in a breath and sits up, pushing his hair out of his face. He wants to turn on voice or video, go find America, something, but every part of him is trembling and he doesn't trust himself not to break down. He doubts that's what America needs right now.]

It all matters. Your feelings matter. You know you can talk to me at any time you wish, correct?

[He takes extra time to correct all of the errant typos he made before he sends the message out.]

It's terrible. [ he agrees flatly. ] And yet it's too many people that would, clearly.

This is the truth of where we reside, I suppose, if what the deliverer of this information says is true.

I guess it's fortunate they at least bring us back.

[ he should be reacting more. He should be, but... ]

[ The reply comes with a noticeable delay, but well before Riki has the time to delete the post. ]

Clues. More questions than actual answers.

[ Doc speaks mostly for his own part of the hacking, as he had been too focused on his own terminal to pay much attention to the others. And ever since then, he has been too busy to contact them what with the punishment, the retrieval unit madness and what ensued. ]

[ The answer comes with a noticeable delay, and it is probably the only one Doc will be able to write before Riki deletes the post ]

There's something funny about all of this. That guy... he doesn't look like Jason. Doesn't sound like him either.

I guess that's not too surprising.

[The admins would never make anything simple, would they?]

But still, maybe if we can get all the clues together we can figure out more.

Interesting experiment

Probably the most important clue I found is that some of the missing psychology books should be somewhere in the lower levels of the tower.

However I suspect reaching them would be complicated.

[ More so complicated than a mere infiltration. This is probably his last reply before Riki deletes the post, and he'll send her the transcript a couple hours after that. ]

[Romeo watches it, a sad but determined expression on his face. And then nods] I'll go and make sure lots of people come and watch it sir!

That's just..horrible, on quite a few levels. Anon, how did you come by this video? If you don't want to say, that's fine..but now we have to wonder about the rest that were involved in the experiment groups.

There were at least 158 other subjects. This is the only one I could find, but there are many more to find.

[Kain had brought up the video and watched out of a sense of duty more than curiosity. Information was valuable, and information must be preserved. He had already set to work doing such a thing. What was a little more work of that sort?

This was not simple work at all. This was not work that he wished he had taken on. But he watched it until the end. And then immediately opened up a video response. He's pale and unsettled looking.]

If that we did not have to remember such things....

Where did this come from? And what is it?

[ ... He'd seen many insane and sick things in his life, but that probably took the cake as far as sheer horror was concerned. ]

No, he doesn't. I can't say I've ever seen him, personally, so I can't judge on appearance. [ There was- one video, dated far before his entry into the Tower that he's found, but the details are fuzzy for him right now in the face of everything else going on ] But he does sound different.

It could just be a different one. In the past, or something like that. Like I said, it's apparent enough that there are far too many that would do such a thing. [ But was it only coincidence that there would be two such Jasons? Or... ]

And don't worry. I'm perfectly fine, relatively speaking.

[It's probably just the shock of seeing something awful, and maybe of being here in the first place.

It's not exactly a vacation, is it?]

Guess we won't know, huh? We need more information, whatever is going on.

Do we truly want to know more? [ The reply is wry, though not without traces of something more there. Weariness, perhaps. ]

But I agree. I suppose all there is to do is watch and see.

Trust me, I've seen a lot of crap in my life.
