[After a long month spent gathering information, pouring over the guide to the Tower he found, and generally just trying to gather his bearings, Mello decides to turn to the network at long last. He never did like the idea of a completely solitary investigation.]

How's it going, Tower? Everyone been having fun? Great. Down to business.

First off, let me say that you're just about the craziest bunch of kidnapping victims I've ever had the displeasure of living with.

I mean, come on. Weddings? Birthday celebrations? I know that people have an innate need to try and make unmanageable situations as normal as possible, but surely there are better things you all could be doing with your time.

Now, this might come as a shock, but I'm not content to sit here and leave myself to the mercy of my kidnappers. I've already read that guide that some of you have put together, so don't bother explaining how dangerous the place is to me, or how there's no way out, or blah, blah, blah. However, if anyone has info on hand that hasn't yet been added to the guide, feel free to cough it up. If our hosts have allowed you to write up that guide in the first place, I'm sure they won't mind my asking for a little more elaboration, right?

Information is key, especially in a place where nothing seems to make sense. I fully intend to make use of it and find a way out. You're free to join me, if any of you are up for it.

All right, now time for a question.

I've heard that we all come from different worlds. That isn't normally something I'd believe, but since I've arrived here, I've seen a ton of strange things, so I'll bite. In the interest of finding out which "universe" I'm from, give me an answer: have any of you heard of a mass murderer named Kira? He kills people - criminals - with heart attacks. Just in case any of you are from one of those "alternate timelines" and Kira hasn't yet reared his ugly head, have any of you heard of a detective named L?

I don't think I've met her. I'd need to see her in person, or look at a photograph, if you have one. Once I have that, though, I can get rid of her any way you'd like. Heart attack, accident, suicide... As long as it's physically possible, it can be done.

[After he types that, he pauses, recalling one of the rules written down in the Death Note. He's never had a chance to test a very specific part of the first rule, because it didn't apply in his world, but...]

Oh, and one more thing... I can't believe I'm asking this, but, is she human? I can't say for sure how well it'll work if she's not.

Again, I've gotta be scarce with the details, but there's a way to get a hold of a power that lets you know what a person's true name is. It's a trade done with the being that granted Kira his power in the first place - a god of death.

I haven't seen any death gods around here yet, but hey, if your friend can summon demons, who knows what'll show up here in the future?

I don't have a photograph or a way to take photos unfortunately. You'll have to make do with seeing her in person. She lives on the highest dormitory floor in the female quarters, and with that description you should find her easily. But keep your guard up.

I don't have a preference for the cause of death except make it as thoroughly humiliating as possible.

Hm... I don't think so. At least not a normal one, she's very strong for one. But she looks well enough to pass for human.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was any here now.

[Mello gnaws thoughtfully on his chocolate bar, thinking things over. "The human whose name is written in this note shall die..." That's the first rule of the Death Note. But would humanoids be affected, too? There's a possibility that the rule was only worded that way to avoid anyone from getting the idea that an animal or a god of death could be killed with the notebook, but if the notebook truly only worked on humans, then he'd need a backup plan.

If worse comes to worst, at least he'll end up with more information about how the Death Note works. It's not like Sidoh was ever very helpful on that front, anyway.]

All right, I'll give it a shot. Just in case it doesn't work, would you like me to kill anyone who you know is an ordinary human?

If I see a god of death, I'll start working on a plan to get rid of our kidnappers, but until then, I think our best bet would be to focus on figuring out how this place works. Who knows? Maybe we won't even need to kill the administrators in order to find a way out.

[He doubts that, and he'd want to kill the admins even if he couldn't do it with the notebook, but they might as well try to consider other possibilities.]

[Togami thinks back and remembers a certain person he met in the tower earlier this month. While killing him off wouldn't do shit, in fact he would enjoy getting offed, he couldn't think of anybody by full name who deserved a killing. He had some standards to abide to.]

Yes there is. I actually have a picture of him. But I would prefer dealing with this pest first. You've got that? Because I don't want to repeat myself.

My name is Togami. Perhaps you've heard of my family or not, it would be nice to know. If you need me, I will be on floor three after breakfast until around lunch on most days or on floor nineteen.

I guess so yes, there was a time in June where we had no collar checkups, the liquid wasn't replaced, we got dizzy and light headed and I believe for those with powers their powers began going out of control.

I have no idea what it is now... but I believe it is going inside our bodies and not affecting us from the outside.

Look for the administrators related posts on this network. It should not be long.

[ Ganondorf was referring mostly to the part where it was mentioned that Zo is the one taking people from their homeworld and the destruction began around the time Ruana first entered this tower. For someone like Mello, finding these old posts on the network shouldn't be too hard.

It was easy to imagine that with these two admins out of the way, they would go back to their homeworlds and whatever was keeping their homeworlds destroyed would end. Worse case scenario, with the administrators out they could harness the tower's power and work on a way to go home.

As for actually going ahead and doing it, well Mello would probably be satisfied about Ganon's little attempt a couple days later. ]

That's not what I meant, though. What was the last thing you remembered from Gaia?

Each person is certainly entitled to their own opinions.

[And she's being soo good in keeping her temper in check. Careful, Mello. You don't want to wake up the Bridezilla.]

Have you stopped and thought that maybe they don't know how to deal with the situation they're in and are only doing what they know how. Not everybody has the mental strength, or even the physical strength, needed to do the hard work of finding out information. Especially when trying to obtain that information brings about horrible consequences.

Beats me, really. Especially considering Reno and Shion filled me in on your upcoming nuptials!

[Smirking, for a moment, before her expression falls.]

Oh, that. I was about to head out on a mission to Sephiroth's base in Corel. To recover you.

[So far she's been really lucky in finding a lot of old friends in this place, but she starts to think that it might not be the usual way of things around here.]

[He wasn't expecting another response, but when one shows up, he takes the time to answer.]

No, I haven't.

[He hasn't heard a single mention of Kira or L at all. Both of them were so ingrained into everyday life back at home that it's hard to imagine life without them. It doesn't seem like he has much of a choice in the matter, though.]

I don't think I'll be finding L any time soon.

[An unexpected and unwanted pang of emotion hits him square in the chest as he types that, and he tries his best to ignore it. He uses that emotion to fuel a much more welcome feeling: anger. And that anger gives way to determination.]

But I intend to find Kira. I don't care if I have to reach into the remains of some dead world to do it. I'll bring him back to life just to kill him again.

[The thought of it makes him smile.]

["Anyone might show up here" sends another rush of emotion to Mello's chest, but he brushes it off quickly enough. He won't let himself buy into the idea that L might show up sometime, from somewhere, because L is dead. Holding onto some foolish hope like that will only disappoint him in the end.

But just in case someone from his world did show up, he can't very well blurt that truth where others can see it. As far as the public is aware, L is alive, and he'll be alive for years to come.]

Besides the fact that L is one of the most elusive people on my planet? Well, my planet's gone now, so that's a deciding factor in whether or not I'll find him here.

And as for Kira... It's not satisfying if he died through some random cosmic gamble. Hilarious as that would be, since he thinks he's a god and all, it's just not the same.

I want to be there to laugh in his face while he dies.

[Almost as importantly, he wants Near to be there, too. He wants his greatest rival to see that he beat him in the most important game of their lives.

Thinking about Near and Kira like this always makes his blood boil. He tears a chunk of chocolate off of the bar he's eating, grinding it between his teeth with a bit of a mad look on his face. It's a good thing they're communicating through text.]

Kira definitely deserves it. He's killed thousands of people. Hell, killing him twice would be pretty damn kind.

I'll have to find my way back to my own world some time. See for myself how much of an "eye-opener" it is.

I can't say I'm a complete stranger to the supernatural, so I'm sure it won't be too difficult to work all this into my deductions. The lack of consistency is a real pain, though. I'd thought before that the universe was bound by laws, even if some of those laws are beyond scientific explanation, but this tower is just all over the place.

[And he's at a loss here. Damn.]

[He has half a mind to ask what she did to him that's got him wishing death on her, but he doesn't ask. It's not his problem. If killing her will get this guy to trust him, that's good enough for Mello.]

[Mello's hands fly back up to his collar, and he tries once again to squeeze his fingers underneath it. They slide around the edges and over the tubes flowing with liquid, but he can find no leeway. If the liquid is going inside their bodies, though, it would have to be through some sort of puncture wound, perhaps something like an IV. Is that what the collar check-ups he read about in the welcome notes are for? Replenishing a supply of liquid that's being slowly fed into their bloodstreams?

He doesn't like that idea at all. The very thought is enough to make his skin crawl, and a scowl falls over his face. He doesn't want some foreign substance inside his body, he doesn't want to imagine how the Death Note effects his status, and most of all, he doesn't want to be in this tower.

He tries to keep his voice even and measured, but there's a notable tremble in his tone when he speaks again. It's not at all scared, though; it's easy to tell that Mello is angry.]

How the hell are they getting this shit inside us? [He takes in a breath to try and calm himself (it doesn't work), and goes on.] That guide said that there's overwhelming evidence that taking these collars off will kill us. Do you know why?

You think I've been spending my first few days here twiddling my thumbs? I've already gone over every bit of information I could get my hands on from this thing.

[It's not a lie. He's spent sleepless nights raking through information just to score higher on a test - in a situation like this, which seems to be far more dire, the first thing he'd done was attempt to gather information. He'd poured over the network for hours, reading posts until his eyes hurt, but going over things that have happened in the past only get you so far.]

I've got my own theories. Now I want to hear yours.
