We're in a tower. You can't escape don't try you'll just die. But deaths not even an escape, you just come back. They say the worlds have ended but it's more likely they just kidnapped us.

If you're going to be trapped here like an animal -- as the rest of us are, then you should do so with the potential to be useful. However unlikely it may be you can contribute something worthwhile to escaping, pitying yourself or being coddled with lies will diminish those chances.
