I think trying to understand him can help us. It isn't pity or sympathy I aim for, only understanding.

*After all, if Dax was able to persuade him to be lighter on them than he normally would be, there's a way to negotiate with him.*

So long as he thinks you are at his level. They may not be inclined to listen to those so far beneath them.

I know. It's very likely. But all the same...what harm can it do to try?
