[Following his unpleasant encounters during infiltration, Rick's had some time to critically think about his place in the Tower. He's been here a month now, and it's been quite the month, surely; but what has he done here, to ease the lives of everyone else? Stalk around as random animals? Make lunch? Work the printing press? It all seems so ineffective, now--just distraction after distraction, all the while adding nothing. Somehow he has to make himself useful.]

[Thankfully--or possibly not, depending on how this pans out--Rick is reminded of a conversation he had recently over the network, and while he couldn't think of anything at the time, he has an idea now.]

...I can shape-shift. Not into anything I can think of, but into specific creatures that I've come across and have...absorbed the souls of. It's really hard to explain, I'm not quite sure how it works. But when I bond with something that way, it's like they live in my head--I remember everything they do, I can talk to them, and of course I can shift into them.

I think I understand what kinds of situations let me gather new forms. If we could set up a scenario where I'm able to bond with a monster, though...I'm sure that could be useful.

Yes, that made sense. I believe I understand your explanation, even if I do not understand how such an ability functions. As our souls are real here, that may mean your ability would remain, even without the glamour.

You would like me to help you obtain a monster?

That would be a useful way to learn more about them. I will do so.

I'm not so sure about that... [Is it okay to talk about the Tower's recent elevator-shaft shenanigans so soon after the fact? Rick's been guilty of this before, so he tries to exercise caution.] ...Recently, I was in a part of the Tower where I couldn't shift. But that could have been from some kind of repression rather than from lack of glamour or something. I guess trying to bond with something that's "real" here could prove if my powers are also real.

In any case...yes, that would be really nice of you, thanks! But the monster needs to be...almost dead for me to bond with it. Also I need to be in contact with it for a few minutes while it's dying, and it needs to be willing to bond itself. This could take a few tries and could be really dangerous.

I see. I would be interested in hearing more about it. I believe they could suppress powers, even if they were genuine in our current forms. Yes, it will be an interesting experiment.

That will not be difficult for me. As well as fighting abilities, I have healing magic, so I can maintain a monster's life, if necessary. It will be dangerous, but we will succeed.

I can give you an item that will allow you to escape from any battle, although it will not work in areas where powers are suppressed. It will assure your safety for the most part, as you are a non-combatant.

Thank you! I really appreciate the help--and I'll do what I can to help you, too. I might not like fighting, but...I have a few forms that aren't as opposed to it as I am.

...That being said, if it comes down to me bonding with the monster and you healing it, we might get overrun by its friends. I don't doubt your abilities at all--but would it be okay if I tried to get a few others to come with us, just to keep watch? [Strength in numbers, right? Plus, Rick already had the perfect person in mind for the task.]

You are welcome. I am glad to be of assistance. What forms do you have that are capable of combat?

I do not mind the presence of others. That is acceptable. It would likely be safer.

Multiple...all of my forms have their own strengths and weaknesses, but the primary fighters are probably the tiger and the dinosaur. The cat can scout, the dog can track, and the horse can make a quick escape, if we need to.

...Of course, my typical human form is pretty useless, so we should probably avoid floors that limit abilities.

That is useful. Is there a limit to the number of forms you can take?

They are easily avoided. I always avoid them. I have them memorized.

Not that I know of. I think there are some limits on what forms I can take, but...I'm not sure what those are, exactly. Sorry...I wish I knew.

I'm glad you know which ones those are...I haven't done too much exploring, so I'll take your lead.
