it's not really a "little detail", so I'm going to assume you were gone before that brouhaha happened.
basically, some assholes broke the tower, and according to the head nutjob in charge, we're all going to die when that counter hits zero.
oh, and they broke it by shutting down a very important system responsible for creating the illusion that things here are remotely normal.

so, after THAT screw up, a bunch of people decided it'd be a good idea to boycott our twice monthly check-ups.
that was actually vaguely successful, I guess.
some people started waking up during this weird "time suspension" period afterward, though, where everyone was frozen except for them.
not really sure what was up with that myself, but it happened, so there you go.
(oh, and free tip: don't bother trying to dodge your appointments NOW, since you'll just get tranqed for your efforts.)
