[So here's Estelle, walking into the huge library and looking for Eridan. She really, really hopes he's doing alright. He said he was okay with it, being a... "time player"? But Estelle can't quite imagine how anyone could ever get used to multiple versions of themselves dying.]

[By the time Estelle arrives, Eridan has managed to get his shit together and look more or less composed. He waves at her as she approaches.]

[He offered a ghost of a smile, shrugging a bit.]

I'm not really happy with the Eridan invasion lately.

I don't think it's so terrible. It must be very exhausting, though!

[chronomancer]

It's... it could be worse, I suppose. It can always get worse.

[He shrugged.]

I'm just hopin' I don't screw somethin' up.

[She tilts her head slightly.]

[chronomancer]

Because that's... the one thing I'm real good at?

[Eridan shrugs.]

[Eridan shrugs, deciding for once not to go down that path. Everyone insists on going down that path and refuses to listen to him but, he knows better.]

It's okay, don't worry about it. Whatever happens, I guess the Alpha will fix it somehow.

[She hesitates.]

Do you mind explaining to me how this works?

Oh, sure.

[Eridan shrugged.]

...but you might want to sit down, this... is going to take a while.

[She sits obediently, waiting very expectantly. Go for it, Eridan!]

I've got Time powers, it's my aspect in the Game so it's... my thing. Except I really suck about it but that's besides the point. The thing about Time it's that it's not linear, it just looks that way. More often than not it's just a bunch of loops shakily held in place. There's this thing, called the Alpha Timeline, which is how things should happen. It's not... set in stone. You can do things differently, but because that's not how the Alpha goes, that means you end up dooming yourself. And the entire timeline you create when you don't follow the Alpha. And anything that's doomed is bound to die.

What do you mean, your "aspect"? And what game?

The Game is... it's how Universes are made, back where I'm from. Bunch of kids start a game that just... it fucks you over, but in the process you're supposed to make a new universe. Every player gets a title and an aspect, and there are powers attached to them. Mine were about Time.
