Forgive me for interrupting your daily activities but I have a question I'd like to bring up to the table.

[Judging from the dark look that is slowly becoming present on his face, it's pretty clear that a friend of this new guy is currently stuck in an experiment.]

Is it possible for an experiment to be halted before its completion?

From what I've heard, this is a common occurrence, even if the experiments are different for each repetition.
