Is this a dream?

[ It's difficult to tell when she's awake and when she's not, after all, with dreams of her own room and world sometimes blurring in with the stranger ones - and this one would definitely fit in with the stranger ones. So despite the situation, the teenage girl is fairly calm, her voice even and a little on the quiet side. ]

... Ah, wait. If this is a dream, nobody will tell me it isn't real. [ She hums, pondering it as if it's an interesting concept to her. ] What a mystery..

... 'New'. [ she repeats the word to herself before nodding. ] Yes, I think I am new.. even if it's a dream, it's one I've never been to before. So I'm new.

What kind of bad things happen? [ she can imagine a few things, but.. ]

Well, death be at da top of da list, but der also be torture, violence, sorrow, crazy beasties, forced experiments...

Hold up, I might be hittin' it off da wrong way already if ya be new.

Look, it's, odd. But if ya stay outta trouble, chances are notin' bad will be 'appenin' to joo mon. It be a very weird place dat be for sure.

[ Death, torture-- what kind of place is this? Even in her dreams she never died before, she mostly just got locked up, but there haven't been many times it was worse. Maybe a few times, but.. ]

I'll stay out of trouble. [ of course, nobody wants to have that happen to them. ] But how do you do that in a place like this? The same way you would normally?

Yup, der be certain floors and certain people ta look out for. I don't be knowin dem all, but s'long as ya be stayin' near da staircases so joo can escape anyting dat might be poppin' out, joo should be fine.

So whether something is trouble or not is divided by floors..? Can't the trouble just move up or down a floor if it felt like it?

Da people can, yeah. But da creatures dat be belongin' to a floor seem ta like were dey be livin'.

Dunno exactly why, but dat be how it's been since I got 'ere and how it's been for sum o' da people I talked to.

That's a little strange.. They must really, really like staying where they are, in that case. [ not that she can't understand that feeling. ]

So are there places where no danger at all will come?

Dey must, or da controllers of dis place be keepin' it dat way.

As far as wat floors be safe, I don' be knowin' all a' dem, but I be sure da dorms and da first four floors be pretty safe mon.

That's good. After all.. if they weren't, things could sneak up to you while you're sleeping.

Don't I know it. [She laughs]

Last ting I be needin' is sumting creepin' up on me while I be sleepin'!

... Do you do it a lot? [ her voice almost sounds a little lighter now, curious like a child even though she's not that young anymore. ]

Sleeping, that is.

[She was confused at the question at first before the girl clarified.]

It be a luxury I like ta take when needed. Ya nevah be knowin' when joo'll be havin' da chance ta enjoy a good sleep, nap or whatever is in between mon.

It's a luxury, yes. Sleeping is very nice, and so is dreaming..

[ Almost that she wouldn't want to stop doing it, but she knows she has to. She has to face reality every once in a while or she'll become some sort of shut-in. ]

I hope I can do it here a lot too.

Ya 'ave been mentionin' dat since joo arrived. [Xue mentioned with a hint of curiosity.]

Ya seem ta like it, or at least wondered 'bout it. I be sure joo can have sum nice sleep 'ere.

[She paused for a moment before continuing.]

By da by, I be Xue'Kol, nice ta meet ya mon.

... I just like it. There's.. nothing wrong with that, right?

[ She asks it almost a bit hesitantly, as if she's afraid of being judged. ]

And my name is Urotsuki. It's nice to meet you too-- Xue..'Kol? [ hesitantly trying the pronounciation. ]

[Xue laughs, but it's not a mocking laugh, more of a happy one.]

Naw mon, it be perfectly okay. In fact, I used ta know dis lil' ting of a gal back home. As fierce as dey come in battle, but she be shy as daisies. Dat gal loved her sleep, naps and what 'ave joo.

And 'ey, if it be makin' joo 'appy, who am I ta tell joo not ta enjoy it yeah?

[ She sounds a little happier now, perhaps because of the approval. ]

Yes. I don't think having company is 'just to', though, I think that's one of the best things someone can do for another person. [ of course a neglected girl would say that, but still. ]

So.. yes, I don't mind company at all.
