While I agree that this is all very unsettling... there's nothing we can do but go along with what they demand. It'll be easier if we follow their rules for now.

I've noticed. I have to wonder if the tower itself is sentient and expands on its own, or if our captives are responsible for this... because I've never seen it expand while I was awake, though I haven't been here long.
