[ Guess who has already settled well into his apartment? Wilhelm has set himself up into a nice little corner, with a desk, a small phonograph playing some rather old music, and a strange, golden disc, complete with two rotating circles similar to a sextant, and a green, translucent cube made of energy. ]

What a fascinating world this is.

[ Wilhelm muses, though his face isn't quite in the camera; just the left half of his body, and the bottom part of his chin visible as he rests it in his palm. One of the circles of the Compass is rotating madly, while the other is only slowly turning. ]

The collective unconscious has become difficult to read. I find it difficult to believe that my world was destroyed, but the collective unconscious has never been this uncooperative before.

[ Despite the fact that he's been ripped out of his own world and into one entirely unfamiliar to him, he seems... calm. Perhaps even content. The truth is, he's feeling absolutely devastated right now, due to him knowing that somehow, he might have failed at his mission. Only one person here will be able to tell, though; and it's the only person here mentally connected to him that can tell his true emotions beneath the pokerface. ]

Might I ask what became of my own world? Or how it met its fate?

Who knows.

On one hand it might have been destroyed. On the other, it could very well be a ruse by our captors while they pretend to be benevolent. The possibility of worlds ending exists and is conceivable, but to say so many might have ended in succession...that leaves room for a bit of consideration.

And it is good to know someone might provide music here on a wider scale. Do you only have Wagner?

I have already concluded that the people who inhabit this world are not of my own universe. The only other explanation is inter-dimensional destruction, and that does not seem plausible to me.

[ He blinks, somewhat amused by the question. ]

I have a special fondness for Wagner.

Some of them are of mine. So I've not found myself surrounded entirely by strangers.

[And then again strangers only in that Lucifer had no personal contact with them beforehand. Lucifer had found often enough in his long life that others generally fell into certain categories. Into certain clichés he supposed and that you could know someone and be familiar with them just by knowing their point of view, even if the face was different.

And yet so many times he had been surprised by new people...]

It might be highly plausible somehow and I'd still doubt it. They give us their word and that's all they give us and expect us to treat it like cardinal truth.

I have nothing against Wagner but surely he can't be all you listen to.

I do not rely upon others for the truth. Under normal circumstances, there are no secrets of my universe hidden from me. Here, however, the collective unconscious seems unwilling to allow me to observe.

[ He tilts his head. ]

I enjoy other composers. Bach, Beethoven, Mozart.

Only a fool relies on others for "truth".

Ah. You stick only to the compositions of the classical masters then?

That is why I do not listen to the individual.

[ He nods. ]

I do not enjoy 'contemporary' music.

To listen to a group, however, is also not advisable. In the end there is only one voice that matters.

As much as I appreciate the classics don't you find that...not dull. But certainly repetition after repetition of the same thing must become too predictable and inspire some want of change in you. Especially if we're to talk of the language of music.

It is not a single demographic I observe, either. Through this - [ he motions to the Compass ] - I am able to directly observe and interpret the collective unconscious of the universe. It is through this observation that I am able to protect humanity, mainly from itself.

[ He almost smiles. But, of course, this is Wilhelm, so 'almost' is the operative word here. ]

Predictability is something I am very accustomed to.

[You can't see it since he's stuck to voice Wilhelm, but Lucifer openly frowns at that. You're sounding too close to quite a few people back home he doesn't care for.]

And yet not a single one of all man's voices should matter in your judgment. Only your own. Nor do they need to be protected. They should be allowed to pursue their fate as they please.

As am I. Far more than I would like to be.

My objective is to prevent the destruction of the Lower Domain. However many sacrifices are required to ensure humanity's survival is irrelevant.

[ Look at all the fucks he gives. ]

If they are in need of protection then that shows they are unworthy of survival. Better to allow your plane of existence to come crashing down then to uphold it for a weak, struggling few.

I am afraid that it is not that simple.

[ Wilhelm shook his head. ]

I was created by the Collective Unconscious for the purpose of preserving it. I cannot, and will not, go against my reason for existing.

[In Lucifers mind it is that simple and he himself is proof positive of it.]

A slave, then. You have my pity.

The term 'slave' implies involuntary servitude. It is inaccurate.

[ That's about the closest Wilhelm ever really gets to being defensive. Congrats! ]

From the sound of it you have no choice as to whether it's voluntary or not.

[Being an asshole is just Lucifers way of being friendly. Really.]

Perhaps so. But I have nothing to gain from the destruction of the universe. It is in my best interest to ensure it survives.

[ Wilhelm tilts his head. ]

You sound as if its destruction would be desirable. Might I ask why?

No.

The destruction is undesirable. But if that would be the natural end for it that is the natural end. One might provide a path for humanity, but it's foolish to force and lead them down that path.

Unfortunately, it is the only way to prevent that from happening. If there is not a guiding hand, humanity will almost assuredly destroy itself.

And as I said before if that is the natural way that is as it should be, without interference.

Although, from my experience I believe you give them far less credit than they are do.

There would be nothing natural about it.

[ At least, as far as human interference. Technically, it would be caused by Yeshua, and by extension, U-DO. ]

Humans are fascination creatures. By like children, they must be guided.

Then how do you know the end would come?

If you do so then they will never be anything but children. And it is those of your opinion, I've found, who've most often been proven wrong.

Suffice it to say that I do not need to see time in a linear sense.

[ He doesn't elaborate beyond that. ]

Perhaps so. But children or not, it is my duty regardless.

And duty can always be defied.

Even by creatures such as you and I.

I choose not to.

And you do only harm in choosing such.
