[Dax's voice can be heard, first muffled.]--is it on? Oh, good, we've got communications-- [He pauses, and shouts, obviously to someone else in the same area as him] Communications are up!

[There's another pause as he collects himself, and then his voice is calmer, more even-toned--though still worried.]

Okay, so I know things are kind of rough up there and we haven't really been able to do much. That attack damaged things down here, too, but we've got a lot of it back online and we're going to do what we can.

Since the dorms are gone, for the moment, we'll be moving revival to the infirmary for the moment. The room will be guarded by the retrieval units, so while it's not--foolproof, it and the floors below it are probably the safest places right now. The creatures are moving downward, but we have a plan--we just need time to repair one more thing down here before we can enact it.

Can you manage for another day?

They're monsters Zo unintentionally brought here when he attempted to bring a great deal of you here at once. We're unsure as to their physiology beyond that, though I know Jason has been experimenting on them, on and off. [His tone holds a great deal of distaste toward the mention of Jason's experiments.]

Someone theorized they're...the...the souls of the others. But two of us can hear two voices from a single phantom...

*pause. If Armaros and Lucifel and Raphael are really in there somewhere...*

What sort of experiments?

I try not to learn more about his experiments than necessary.

I can't say I would think less of you for it.

*....okay, next plan of action: Rule it out.*

Then what of that theory...? Would two different voices from the same being disprove it?

The Phantoms aren't native, so we don't know much about them. There isn't much we can prove or disprove about them.

I see... *Not beyond what Jason has found out...ugh, it would make him sick if he had anything in his stomach to ask, but...he has to know.* Jason hasn't reported any findings to you, has he?

Not to me, I'm afraid. I doubt he would if he did find something out.

*Enoch nods, solemn and worried.

The conversation is interrupted, to Enoch's perception at least, by a loud WHOOOOAAAAN as a phantom blurs into view behind him. Enoch looks over his shoulder and leaps over the terminal, out of sight.

A moment later, he connects again, from a different terminal if Dax can see such a thing.*

Can I ask you another question if you're still there? *He sounds as if he's been running, and he looks shaken.* What did you hear from that phantom?

Indistinct whispering. I have never been able to make out a specific voice, though I am aware many of you have been able to.

*Enoch is silent for a little while, catching his breath and processing that.*

Whispering... One voice?

Impossible to tell.

I see...

*Enoch takes a slow, ragged breath.* You're...*A pause, thinking of what was said at the meeting.* ...Dax, aren't you? Take care of yourself. You seem like a good man.

[animusnpcs]

...Thank you. [He still doesn't expect reactions like that, judging by his tone.] I'll do what I can to stop this as quickly as possible.
