[It takes a moment for Meiling to realize that the thing she was poking at was working. She has been pushing buttons at random to get the terminal to work. She hasn't event looked about to see if anything was wrong..other then not understanding people!]

[In Welsh]
Um....Why is it that I could understand everyone just fine a bit ago but now I can't? Can anyone understand me..?

[She frowns and swaps to her other language that she knows..Which she thinks she's speaking Japanese and then Mandarin Chinese.]

Can anyone understand me? What is going on?

[Remilia raises an eyebrow at the strange language, and responds in Japanese.]

Meiling? Do you know what's going on? Can you understand me?

[Meiling's face probably tells all. She looks confused and slightly alarmed. She swaps again, hoping maybe it's just her imagination. But she shakes her head no slowly,]

[Welsh]

I don't understand...This is a joke right...?

[A deep frown etches its way onto her face. She tries again, in Japanese, speaking very slowly, making sure to enunciate each word.]

Meiling, do you understand me?

[The confusion and alarm on her face just deepen although she ends up looking away, trying to hide the alarm. This was not going to be good. She swaps again, keeping her tone calm as she looks back to the screen, the alarm only showing in her eyes.]

[Quenya]

Mistress...I don't understand. What are you speaking?

[Her eyes widen again. Oh god. There must me something wrong with the translators. Dammit. Time to improvise. She holds up a finger, as if to say "give me a moment", and dives offscreen. She re-emerges a few minutes later with several sheets of paper and a set of markers. With a bit of scribbling, she holds up one piece with a single red dot in the middle. The Japanese flag.]

[She nods a bit and says something in Welsh in response, thinking that she's speaking Japanese. She then frowns putting two and two together and staying quiet at this point.

She's going to sit there, trying to at least understand this. She says something else, mostly to herself but again, in Welsh, taking her hat off of her head as she does so.]

[ Remilia bites her lip, thinking for a moment. She responds back in English. ]

Can you understand me now? This is English.

[All Meiling does at this point is to look down at the keyboard, looking a bit frustrated. Why can she all of a sudden not understand something she's known for years? Although the other ones spoken around her was understandable but...]

[ Remilia crosses her arms, thinks, and then goes to draw something else. It's a simple sketch of the tower, with arrows pointing to various places, a large question mark in the middle. Where are you? ]

[This takes a moment as she glances behind her for a moment. She is about to say it out loud but then thinks better of it. There is a grin after she has an idea. Holding her hands up near her head, she lays on them, as if asleep for a moment before holding her hands out to show a few numbers, 2 and 15.]

[So there had been translation issues, according to Dax and pretty much every other active post on the network. England was fortunate that so many beings in the place seemed to use some standard of English.

This one, though; this girl did not end up so fortunate when the systems had malfunctioned.

He listens carefully to the video. It's been-- well over a year now, since he's had any cause to use it.

Nonetheless, he eventually turns on the feed and responds in accented Welsh.]

I can understand you.

It seems the tower is malfunctioning.

[She looks very happy that someone can understand what she is saying. She continues in Welsh.]

Good! Someone else that can speak Japanese. I thought everyone was speaking it before...but now I just don't understand..

[She takes the hat off to scratch at the top of her head.]

The tower is doing what?

[He looks mildly confused by her statement, and sort of wonders if he heard the word wrong or if she'd mixed something up.]

It's-- not working properly. Translation functions appear to be down, and some people have had their languages scrambled altogether.

On that note, I'm afraid we're not speaking Japanese.

...What do you mean we are not speaking Japanese..?

[She looks confused at that but at the same time, slightly alarmed. But part of what her just said clicks a bit.]

Why do I get the feeling I'm part of the some people thing?

[England frowns a little, and he'd sound apologetic if that was a thing that England did. He manages a polite enough approximation.] Unless Welsh is in your normal linguistic repertoire, your feeling about that is probably on the mark.

...Welsh? Where is that from?

[She takes a moment to think on it before shaking her head a bit.]

Figures. I usually speak Japanese...Does this happen often?

It's one of the languages of Great Britain. Specifically, the constituent country of Wales.

No, not to my knowledge. This is the first time something like this has happened since I have been here. [...and he's been here for a while...]

[She knews it is a long way from Gensokyo and a long way from her homeland as well. So yes, she knows. Being new to all this does not help her once bit.]

It's a lovely place -- we're across the Channel from mainland Europe. [He guesses she must be from Japan, or one of Japan's close neighbours if that's the language she usually speaks.]
