I hate this...I hate it.

[She rubbed at her eyes quickly, shoulders hitching as Labrys started to cry despite her best efforts.]

I just wanna make it so no one's gotta go through what I did. I wanna keep some kinda order around here, f-fer cryin' out loud!

That is a perfectly reasonably response to this sort of... experience.

[ It was, he vaguely remembered from some blurb he'd read somewhere, a good idea to reassure a person that they were right to feel the way they did about things no matter the degree or the cause. Denying someone their right to show emotions and saying they should just get over it, they should hold it in, was a bad response.

Crying is the way people ask for help, saying they're hurting and they want to stop hurting. Basic biological responses. I am sad or angry.

How does weeping work with an inorganic life form? ]

... I'm sorry. [ Why doesn't high school offer classes on how to deal with crying girls, or crying at all, really. He swallowed, stiffly and sympathetically; ] I want that, too, but the administration appears to be either too cruel or too mad to care. I don't want people to suffer either, but... One generalization of the world is that given half the chance, the strong will step all over the weak without regard for them. They will lie, manipulate, use up and toss others to the side when their use is done... Perhaps these people believe we are indebted to them, since our survival from the destruction of our worlds is supposedly their work.

[ Maybe he should go locate her and pull her away from the terminal for awhile. ]

Perhaps to them, that is all we are.

...it just ain't right. Why do people haveta be like that? Is it really people like Yu and Mitsuru that're in th' minority, and the rest a' the world's a mess?

Yes. [ Said flatly, un-sugarcoated. He'd gotten his first true taste of the world's unfairness with his father's arrest for something he had nothing to do with, and seen dozens of minor examples of it over time. Minato had shown him the errors of his ways, but he'd soured up over time. ]

[She sounded determined rather than upset now--maybe a little angry, but anger and determination followed each other closely now and then.]

[ He feels a bit like he's simply humoring her, but a sliver of relief pushes through. Determined anger is still better than horrified, frustrated tears. Anything is better than tears. And he does want to believe there's a way back, and a home to go back to at all. ]

Eheh...you'd really wanna help with somethin' like that?

[Forcing herself to believe the apocalypse was a lie seemed better than accepting the 'truth', as it stood now.]

Why not? That's the entire reason I decided to chose to pursue a career as a teacher before coming to this Tower; I want to make people change their ways for the better.

Really? So did I! Actually, I believe I had a fair chance of successfully running for the position this very year after the graduation of the former student council president the previous school year.

Heh...it seemed like it mighta been fun, to keep everythin' in line. And have people listen when you spoke, stuff like that.

Yes. You gain the respect of your peers, as well as the ability to wield power over them, but you also gain the responsibility of ensuring everyone following the rules properly, and doesn't do irresponsible things on campus, and such.

I do find that sort of thing fulfilling.

If I ever get the chance t' get to high school, that's exactly what I'm gonna do. I wanna be the one that keeps everythin' secure and workin' right.

A worthwhile ambition, Labrys-san. [ And surely her status as a mechanical maiden wouldn't prevent her from attending school! ~~Aegis did it after all.~~ ] Every little effort helps change things.
