...I don't understand this at all. Not one bit.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for this girl Ruana? Be her friend? She sounds like a confused child. If they did the same kinds of things to her that they're doing to us, she deserves at least some sympathy.

At the same time, though, if she's happy to go along with what they're doing, and it isn't an act, then I can't exactly be sympathetic.

...I will say that I'm glad that the translation mechanisms are working again, however. That's such a relief.

That's almost a relief. I say 'almost' because, well, what they say is disturbing sometimes, but at least they don't take steps to hide what they say after they say it.

Oh my God...that makes sense, but to think they would use the administrators as costumes. That's awful. It might have given you some insight into her thought process, but at what cost? Learning that we're all pawns in a game she's playing? That it's all at her expense?

I...I don't have that luxury. As far as she knows, and can know, we're friends. I'm all right with that. It's the best outcome there can be. I'll protect her with my life, if I have to. We made our wishes separately, so I can't wish for things to change. And she wouldn't want that.

She was the one answering, yes. I...I think she was the one in the clips.

Kazumi...we think she was the one responsible for what happened at Halloween, too. We think they experimented on her, and the result was her thinking this was all a game. Like Halloween? She thought it was a game.

Kazumi, the thing is...it happened a very long time ago for her. It broke her in a way that means she can't be fixed. No wish, no healing magic, nothing can make her better.

She's so broken that she can't be fixed. We don't know what she was like before. We wouldn't be able to fix her if we tried.

In our world, she would be a witch by now. She would be a full witch, with her barrier up and her familiars out.

The only thing we would be able to do for her is kill her, were she a witch.

But she's that far gone, Kazumi. She's that broken. I think she would see anyone that tried to help her as a threat, and try to hurt or kill them.

I know it hurts, seeing someone in that much pain. I wish there was something we could do. But the best thing to do is leave her alone. Please don't try to help her, Kazumi. I think you would only be killed in the process, and I don't want that to happen to you. Please...

If she is in the way of our returning home safely then there is no time to waste on sympathy.

I don't think she's the only one responsible, though I agree that it's more difficult to be sympathetic given that.

Sayaka-san says she's almost positive Ruana was experimented on herself. I think that because of the experiments, she's become convinced that they're some kind of game. She doesn't feel responsible for what she does anymore.

That changes nothing. She is hurting innocent people. She is one against many. It is impractical. [ Says the girl who has focused universes around Madoka. ]

The most important thing is to work out how far-spread this phenomenon is.

If she herself is a past experiment, then we may all need to be more careful than even previously thought.

By that, do you mean 'how far back it goes' or 'how many people might be affected'? Or both?

I don't think there's any 'may' to it. We definitely need to be more careful. If she's a past experiment, she may very well just not care about the consequences of what she does anymore, and that makes her dangerous by default.

We've done a cursory read of the information gathered, and I at least am concerned that this may be some form of grooming program. Also, that there is an entire city out there that follows this practice to a possibly higher extreme...

It's not painting a very optimistic picture.

I wouldn't put anything past them at this point, so I share that concern. A city that conditions its residents to break...no, that isn't optimistic. Not in the least.

When someone gets caught in an experiment, some people break down and off themselves, a handful gain an insufferable sense of good to make up for the atrocities, and the rest people lose lose their sanity so they can keep living but don't have to deal with it.

She's the last one. She's crazy in every meaning of the word. Take it as you will, but that's the way things are.

Well, I've seen those kinds of crazies, so I already knew that. But yeah, you get the point.

Jason may be a complete bastard, but Ruana's a lose canon that's starting to get sympathy from the idiots that are stuck here. Put that together with her power and mentality, and she's probably way more dangerous than we've already seen.

I get the point. I've seen people that were past it. The only mercy anyone can do for them is kill them before they hurt anyone else.

Going after her would be a suicide mission, but so is letting anyone else decide to get so close to her that they think helping her is a good idea. She's too dangerous and too unstable.

Right on both accounts. Anyone WILLING too is too much of a moron to get it done right anyway.

So either we let her run her course or hope for a miracle. And I'm not really a god-fearing kind of guy myself.

Mmm...I don't really know what to think of her, either.

I think that she was a past subject of their experiments. And I think that broke her in a way that can't be fixed. That makes her very, very dangerous.

I think you're right on that front...but it makes me wonder if she's really just a damaged soul or something actually malicious. I don't know what kind of person can be capable of...the things that happened on Halloween.

Considering I just got done being in another place run by someone like her? It's getting hard to continue to sympathize.

The more I learn about her, the more I find her dangerous.

She's unhinged. Crazy. I dunno. I'm not ready to full on hate her yet. But I sure don't like her.
