[It's almost like looking into a mirror. Except not quite. The image before the old man is that of his younger self. He can't put his finger on it, but the voice also sounds a tad different. It's something about that tone of his.]

Me, I'm not believing anything they say or show us yet. People who kidnap you aren't known for telling you the truth. It's kind of counterproductive, unless they're sure they can get away with what they want.

Of all the people more powerful then him, better than him, and who deserved to live more than him in Mayfield, why was he chosen to survive? It makes no sense to him.

[There is something. Oddly familiar about this. Like there's something at the back of Pokey's mind that is just sounding an alarm. Some kind of warning flag that he's seen this before, but he doesn't know where. Well. He does. It's just that it wasn't something he had seen so much as a way he had thought.

For a moment Pokey just stares at the screen, blank faced. Before smiling. A fake smile, to be sure. But then.

Fake smiles were something Pokey excelled at.]

[With that, Pokey may notice that the person on the other end has suddenly gone offline.]

[Pokey just sits there, looking at the screen. He doesn't know how long he stays there, and not just once but a few times he wonders why he continues to sit there. In part he's hoping to see the words say something else, that he might be imagining what he's seeing at the moment. But he knows that's wishful thinking on his part at the very best.

So he just sits there. Reading the words over and over and over again before finally getting up to leave. And casting one last glance at the machine.]

Too bad I lied.

[And he's gone. To where, he doesn't know. But anywhere other than this room if just for the moment.]
