[...it seems two of the Tower's more recent acquisitions have discovered the network terminals in the third-floor library, and are entirely computer illiterate.

W-Well, my friend Minato-kun had Personas that looked like dragons...

But other than that, they were just on TV and stuff!

[Oh look, Ryoji's probably just causing more confusion.]

I don't have anything like that... Not where I live, at least. [there are probably some dragon-looking chains in the abyss BUT he'll leave that off for now.]

What's a persona?

...and what's a "TV"?

[Back to looking puzzled it is!]

Ah, heh, you guys wouldn't know about these things, right...

A Persona is basically a manifestation of a person's inner strength. It takes whatever form the person imagines, and it helps to protect that person from harm. My friend Minato-kun had a lot of them, and some of them did look like dragons, but they were just his imagination, really.

And a TV is kind of something like this! You can see people on the screen, except you can't talk back to them. They put little shows on the screen for people to watch.

[to the screen:] They actually have things like that in your world? [then to Sheba:] And actual, live dragons in yours? I feel so left behind! Those are such fantastic things, your worlds must be so much fun to live in!

[and then BACK TO THE SCREEN because he's a whirlwind of short attention spans today!] What kind of shows do they have? Is it just people talking like we are?

Things from his imagination ... that could protect people from harm? [The closest thing she could think of were the Summons from Djinn, but it didn't sound quite the same...] Your friend must have been very strong to be able to have so many of them!

[And then, to Oz -] Yes, real dragons! I don't know about "fun" though... the people who lived near the dragons didn't seem to like it much. But there were amazing things to see.

It must have been the same in your world too! Every world has its charms, right?

[Then, to Ryoji again -] What other sorts of things were in your world?

He was! He was really strong. Kind and brave, too. His friends had Personas too, but they only had one each. He could have several at a time.

Dragons are dangerous, but really amazing!

Oh! Um, well, we had computers, like the terminals, and mp3 players, and game consoles. There were other things too, we just used them for stuff other than entertainment.

He sounds like an admirable person, this friend of yours! Is he here? [because one could always use more excellent people in their friend collection!!]

Ah, well, we definitely didn't have dragons but I guess if they can be so dangerous, that might have been a good thing. [he pauses after that to listen to Ryoji's list and, surprise surprise, doesn't recognize a single thing mentioned.]

What does MP3 mean?

... [She didn't echo Oz's question; he'd already asked it, after all. She was curious, but the past tense Ryoji had used made her think that maybe his friend wasn't here after all.

Unsurprisingly, she didn't recognize any of the things Ryoji'd listed off, either.]

Is an "MP3" a sort of ... game? How does one play it?

Ah, he is actually! I just saw him today! His name is Minato Arisato.

[But even the excitement over Minato isn't enough to deter Ryoji's immense failure at describing technology. Hey, he was only really 'alive' for two months, and one month was spent moping. He still has a lot to learn.]

Ah, no, it's actually a file of music! It's like a recording of a song that you can put on a little device, and that device stores it for you and will let you listen to it whenever you want!

Minato Arisato! What a catchy name. I'll have to meet him when I can!

[but then Ryoji goes on about magic recording song devices and he is thoroughly distracted...]

How does that work? [and then, to Sheba:] Do you have anything like it where you're from?

Minato... [That certainly was an interesting name. It almost sounded like he might have been from Izumo - Ryoji's name did, too - but clearly the two of them weren't from Weyard... Huh.

With Oz having already asked how it worked, Sheba was left to answer his other question, to which she responded by shaking her head.] No, we don't. If we want to listen to music it has to be in person.

I think you'll like him. He's quiet, but he's really nice. I owe him so much...

[Ryoji has to stop himself before he starts gushing about Minato more. It's difficult to restrain himself with someone so important to him.]

Um, well, I don't know how to explain it... it's kind of like how you guys can make text and video posts here, and they're saved for other people to see. They're compressed down into something called a file, which kinda keeps them in a smaller form until you open them up?

[Yeah, he really doesn't know what he's talking about any more.]

[it's a fondness he can recognize and understand, at least, and his smile seems to grow even warmer.]

All right, it's settled. I'll absolutely meet him!

[and then the smile just kind of becomes a vaguely blank look of confusion technology is hard.] Ah... It sounds- [...] -handy?

[Sheba smiled as well. Quiet, nice, and dependable? That sounded a lot like someone she knew. It was good that people here had friends like that to fall back on, she thought.]

You're very lucky to have a friend like that, Ryoji. [Truth be told, she was a little jealous.

But oh, technology. Sheba's brow furrowed a bit.]

So when you use them they ... get bigger?

I am... really lucky. I'm so glad I get to see him here.

[He's a little pink, his happiness and pride clear on his face. At least until he's back to stammering through an explanation.]

Uh, it's kind of like that... uh...

[Oh wait! He has an idea!]

It's kind of like when you write a note on a piece of paper and fold it up! All the information is there, it's just smaller. When you open a file, it's like unfolding that piece of paper!

[That's it, right? He's smart, right?]
