Because This Will Surely End Well... [Video]

[Lancer is slowly getting better at this network thing, though he still doesn't know how to do anything fancy with it and doesn't really like it. He would much rather be talking to people face to face, but he knows in this case, that is just not a feasible option. Not if he wants to find what he's looking for in an acceptable amount of time.

The face that greats the network this afternoon is somewhat pale and uncertain, though very focused on his task.]

Forgive my intrusion, but I was wondering if I could ask for some assistance from the residents here. After last week's experiment, I would like to try and find a few things to gift to others. I arrived shortly before the experiment started and so, I'm afraid I don't really know where to start looking for these things.

Specifically what I'm looking for are things related to tea and serving it, but I'm open to other suggestions if you have them. I don't have a whole lot since I'm new, but I am a skilled fighter among other things and very willing to offer my services in trade for any assistance I receive.

I thank you all in advance for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

Don't think there's any tea in the Tower for the time being. You might have to scavenge it from the forest floor or one of the islands.

Well, the restaurant has some tea, but I wouldn't recommend taking up any of their offers. There are a few floors here that have plants, so I could help you search those floors for tea leaves, if you want.

..By the way, how were the books I left you?

Ah...

[What little color that is left in Lancer's face drains out, though he tries to cover it with a forced smile. He'd been happy when he'd woke up and found his roommate away like usual. How exactly did one face someone after what had happened between them during the experiment?]

I was hoping that someone might have some put away from previous months or maybe even had arrived with some that they would be willing to part with. I guess I shouldn't have expected it to be so easy.

Do you think you could tell me more about this man?

He's stoutly built, a little on the short side. Gray beard and topknot.

[Lancer peers at his roommate's face over the feed.]

Hey, you okay there? Your face looks kinda pale.

[Diarmuid had by far probably been the one who got fucked over the worst by the experiment. That plus his sad state during the experiment made Lancer feel just a little protective about his fellow Servant.]

[Lancer blanches at the mention of the restaurant. Oh, he knows well the dangers of that place. He clearly remembers the game he played with them for so long.]

Thank you, Lady Amano. I will let you know if I need to go to that extreme. I was really kind of hoping someone might have some they were holding onto from previous months or something like that.

The books are fine, though I have only just started them. It is okay if I keep them, right? I would still like to read them...

Also, while I've figured to the basics of the network, I would like to take you up on your offer to teach me it...if that offer is still open after how I behaved toward you last week...

Hmm..I don't know anyone who has any leftover tea packets, but there might be someone who does. I'm sorry that I can't offer you any more help with that.

[The answer is quick--to quick--to be believable. Lancer should have realized his roommate would just shrug things off. It's how the man seems to work.

It's just too bad Lancer himself can't do that.]

Ah...I'm at the terminal on the 4th floor of the dorms, not far from my room. You don't have to rush over here, though. It's not that important. I've just heard that you can do things like filter and lock messages, and I thought it might be useful to know how to do that even if it doesn't always work the way it's suppose to.

...Don't push yourself too much.

[He scratches his head.]

Can't think of any off the top of my head.

[He looks away from his roommate and then adds very quickly under his breath.]

Besides, I deserved it. So, don't worry. It's not important.

Ah, alright then! It is good to know how to do that. It was a little tricky to figure out, but I can help you with that! Hang on. I'll be down there in just a minute!

[Tohko was typing from the third floor library. As soon as she sent that message, she'd be running down to the dorms, and when she reached the fourth floor, she'd start looking around for Diarmuid.]

I won't worry about it if you aren't worrying about it.

[Lancer could chalk everything up to the experiments messing with people easily enough.]

And no, you didn't deserve that. It never would've happened if the Tower hadn't turned you into that, and nobody deserves to get hit with something like that.

[When he sees her arrive on the floor, he stands up from the terminal and waves to her.]

Here, Lady. Thank you for coming so quickly. I appreciate it, though it wasn't necessary. How are you?

[She might notice as she draws close to him that he's having trouble meeting her eyes despite the kind tone in his voice.]

Then don't.

[The words are flat because it's a lie. While Lancer doesn't want his roommate to worry about him, he would like to talk to him about what happened. He just doesn't know how.]

I will call it an omen and warning and heed it as such. I was considering something before, now I am not. It's as simple as that.

[Tohko will wave back as she walks towards him.]

Ah, you're welcome! I'm always happy to help. And I'm alright. How about you? Are you feeling any better?

[While Tohko could sometimes pick up on physical cues, she did miss them sometimes. This was one of those times.]

[He raises an eyebrow.]

Why? You didn't seem to like what you became. So why even consider it?

[Lancer shakes his head.]

No, I didn't! Why would I want to be that? That is why I'm taking it as an omen. Before this all happened I was thinking of changing something about myself because people thought it might make me happier. If I do that, it might very well be the first step toward becoming what I was during the experiment. I won't risk that so I will just stay how I am now. It's...for the best anyway.

I'm fine.

[The answer comes quickly and in a flat tone that seems to say the exact opposite of what his words had just said. To distract her from it, Lancer turns toward the computer terminal.]

I've still got the system up so whenever you want to start, we can.

I think you're fine now the way you are.

[Nice, honest, and honorable. Pretty strong too given the shit that he went through during his Grail War. Lancer could definitely respect that in another person.]

What, someone actually had a problem with you?

[At that, Tohko sighed and nodded.]

Alright then..but if you ever have any problems, feel free to talk to me, alright? I'm a simple book girl, but I might be able to help.

[She then turned toward the terminal and started to explain.]

If you want to filter texts or voice messages to just one person, you have to highlight the portion of text or video that you want filtered and then select a few people from the 'users list' that you want it sent to. When you put up your message, only the people that you select will be able to see that portion of the text or video.

Does that make any sense? This is usually the hardest part of using the network, so I thought I'd get it out of the way.

Not a problem, per say, but thought I would be happier if I relaxed a little bit and allowed myself to be more selfish.

[Lancer pauses a moment and closes his eyes. He has to repress a shiver as he thinks about where that selfishness had led him.]

She meant well, but she seemed to have a real issue with my loyalty and honor. A violent issue one could even say.

[Sadly, he actually has an idea of who that person could be.]

In the end, you're the one who knows what makes you happy, right? You don't have to do what she says.

[Her first name is out before he knows it and so he just lets it go. His voice is so soft and tired that she might not hear anyway. She's always so kind to him no matter how he treats her. So kind it hurts because he knows he doesn't deserve it.

Lancer feels tears pricking at the corners of his eyes and he takes a deep breath, forcing himself to focus on what she's trying to teach him instead.]

That makes sense. The order is probably what would have tripped me up. I wouldn't have known what to do first.

Good..I'm glad to hear that.

[Thanks to nearly losing all her senses back in December, Tohko's hearing had improved a little bit from what it once was. She heard what he said..and how it sounded. A little concerned, she looked at him and put a hand on his shoulder. If she saw tears, she didn't mention them.]

I had some trouble with figuring this thing out the first few times as well. Machines and I never saw eye-to-eye..but these are pretty simple, so I've managed to figure out how to work them.

[Mostly.]

Is there anything else you want to know about them?

I know, I know. It's just...

[He pauses, not sure how to explain this to someone like his roommate. Finally, after several moments, he takes a deep breath and continues.]

I used to be okay just living for others and doing whatever my master wanted. Something woke up in me when I was betrayed in my war and that something is now at odds with the rest of me. It's tired of me getting stepped on because I put others first. It wants me to put myself first instead.

That's the part she wanted me to give a chance to and that's the part that I know now I cannot. There is too much risk of me becoming...that.

I don't want to cause any trouble. She was merely trying to find a way for us to reach some kind of accord since we both know some of the same people. I'm afraid it's just not going to happen especially since I seem to remind her of something she would rather forget from her home.
