[Standing in front of the terminal, Waver looked like hell. More accurately, like he got the hell to a terminal within two minutes of sleep paralysis wearing off. His suit jacket forgotten, the usual sunglasses were hanging off a collared shirt as black as his disheveled, untied hair.]

I have a question. Technically several, though all geared toward the same subject.

Has there yet been any evidence of limits to this place's resurrection capabilities? An upper limit on times one can return, for example?

And what of side effects: has there ever been any indication of lingering illness or other such afflictions?

You'll have to excuse me if these are stupid questions. I hadn't had time or reason to consider the implications of this until now.

That's not the point I was trying to make! During the Apollo 13 disaster, new techniques were made, scientists worked on the clock, and, in the end, it wasn't a disaster. The crew survived, and we better learned how to deal with space errors like that in the future! We learned how to deal with space better!

Oh. Well, when you put it that way I suppose it's as valid a metaphor as any.

Most of my students just call me 'Professor' or occasionally by my actual title, but you wouldn't believe the amount of ridiculous names I've overheard.

No--Rin knows my name, but she's not the one I was talking about. The girl who is for all intents and purposes my superior is named Ismene Archibald, tenth head of her house.

And anyway, I wouldn't call it manipulating. Someone like 'third-generation magus Waver Velvet' doesn't quite fit into the hierarchy of the world I come from. Until I can change that, I'll lean a little more on my title if that's what I need to be taken seriously.

Ah, alright then! And while people might not take you seriously-which is a shame-with the title of a third generation magus, wouldn't they still take you seriously with your original name and your new title?

It's a little difficult to explain. Magi have an age-old institution of pureblooded aristocracy and internal politics.

The bottom line of the issue is that while 'Lord El-Melloi II' manages at least the basest measure of respect, not many would care about 'Waver Velvet'.

Not that it matters. That's little more than a small and inconsequential issue on the list of things I need to work on.

I heard about the pureblood aristocracy, but I hadn't heard about the internal politics. It..does make sense though.

..It's kind of sad..but I guess there's not much you can do about it right now. It sounds like you have quite a few things on your plate though.
