[He frowned as he repeats the words from this month's menu. Why the damn flower theme? Do people actually eat this? Thorin dispised the menu. Flowers were too elvish for his liking.]

Is anyone actually eating this? Nay, I would rather kill a deer on Floor Thirty Two than ruin my palette with this....food. Flowers are for gardens, not for eating. Whoever thought of this idea is obviously [an elf.] strange. What if you do not like flowers? Do we still have to eat this? Surely, a meat stew could not go amiss one time?

I kind of like the lavender colors! They look nice, and they don't taste bad.

[Tohko had almost no right to talk about how normal food tasted: it was all sand to her, and violet was just her favorite color.]

As for the flowers, they do say that April showers bring May flowers. Perhaps that's why the menu has so many flowers and vegetables.

I do not favour rhymes of such a nature. I am a dwarf. We sing around roaring fires and tell tales of old.

Back in my day, we made due with whatever we could find be it flowers and other plants harvested from the ground, meat hunted, or fish drawn from the waters. I would not complain considering what the fair for last month was. Would you really rather go back to just having nutrition bars?

[Diarmuid's smile is pleasant and welcoming. It is obvious he doesn't mean any condescension with his words. He is merely presenting a different point of view.]

Even if we do not like what is on the menu, at least there is something and that means the kitchen will be stocked with whatever is needed to make it. If you do not know, the kitchen is open for making whatever you would like with those ingredients. Feel free to take whatever you hunt and prepare it there.

..Well, I do admit that there could be better things to eat, but compared to some of the other things here, and the nutrition bars, this isn't bad!

I understand what you are saying. Yet, the selection is limited in that it is flowers or nothing. Perfumed delights are more suited to a palette not of a dwarf. [His next comment made Thorin raise an eyebrow.]

The kitchen is open? I did not know that. Perhaps, I can fashion myself something without flowers to eat.

I did not taste those as I had no intention of trying them. Hunting and gathering is something I tend to favour; as it is the way of my people.

Back home I have rabbit stew or meat broth. A good hearty meal cannot go amiss.

It is unfortunate that the administrators often try to control us by forcing these themes on the meals for the month. Often, people go along with the oddness, but just as often they do not. Yes, the kitchen is open for all who would like to use it though, of course, that is not something they bother to tell you in the letters. While the ingredients are limited to what is needed to make whatever is on the menu for the month, there is nothing that says you can't take those ingredients and add what you gather in the tower to make something completely different. I have done it several times since I came here even though my knowledge of modern appliances is limited. There is nothing to keep you from taking things and cooking them on other ways should that be more suitable to your palette. I am much better at cooking over a fire than I am with an oven.

[Diarmuid laughs at his lack of skill for a moment before switching topics.]

You say you are a dwarf? Are you an acquaintance of Legolas' then? He and I have spoke a time or two and he mentioned the last time we talked that a dwarf from his world had newly arrived.
