[Today, Hakuno Kishinami looks tired. Not defeated, or depressed, or anything like that... just emotionally exhausted. The loss of Caster hurt her a lot more than she thought it would, and she had allowed herself a couple of days to mourn losing yet another person she's grown to like... but she can't keep doing this. She recovered after losing her dear Saber, so she can soldier on through this.

The loss of her other Servant did cause something good, though: Hakuno's finally getting off her butt and taking an active role in her own protection.]

I have a question... well. A question and a request, rather.

Is anyone good with swords? Not... fighting, really. [Though she probably still could use some help there...] I mean making them. Fixing them.

[She reaches off-screen for something and holds it - them - up: pieces of a sword. Broken, obvious, but still rather wickedly sharp-looking.]

A while ago, this showed up in my trunk. It was... a special sword I had received back home. I was wondering if someone could help me fix it, and strengthen it. It was only meant to be used once, but I'd really like to change that so I have something to protect myself with.

... I, uh... I don't really have anything I can offer for your services... but I'd still be willing to help out somehow to repay whoever can assist me.

I can see if I can fix it for you, or if not entirely rebuild it.

Entirely rebuild? Um... I'd like to avoid changing it too much, aside from reinforcing it a bit so it can be used more than once. A... good friend of mine made it for me, so I want to keep it as close to how it is as possible.

It... seems pretty easy to use, don't you think? And it's really the only thing I have on hand that can be used as a weapon...

That's not true. You could use a lot of things as a weapon.

You just have to hit hard enough. [ Is that said from experience? Who knows. But she does sound pretty serious about it. ]

But that takes skill. And I don't really have any skill right now, so I think a sword is best until I can learn to better protect myself.

Ah.. I'm sorry. I can't help then, I've never used a sword. They're heavy. [ Like running around with a huge chainsaw isn't.. but then again, Urotsuki's chainsaw is just a little different either way. ]

Do you think there's knights here who use them?

I don't think all of them are heavy. You just have to find one that's the right size.

I'm sure there are. I've met at least one. I just don't know if there are more.

.. I think the only sword I could use would have to be really tiny though. [ Her expression is still mostly blank, but there's a tiny frown as if she's trying to imagine one of those. ] It'd be more of a knife. And I don't like those.. it's too sneaky. That's mean.

A knife doesn't necessarily have to be creepy though. Even if you're fighting someone face to face, if you're quick enough, I bet you could still strike and do a lot of damage. Hit-and-run tactics, y'know?

[Hakuno may not be that bright when it came to some issues, but there are others where she can certainly be brilliant.]

Isn't hitting and running the sneaky part though..? I think it's important to finish something once you start it. [ It's not like Urotsuki shies away from violence, after all - quite the opposite. ] Just a quick stab won't do.

I am no specialist in weaponry but I have fixed the swords of a few residents in the past, I have no doubt it would be quite easy for me to put back together the broken pieces!

Strengthening it may prove more difficult, but I believe with the right tools and mixtures such a project should be doable within reasonable delays.

Mixtures? Just what would you need? Since I can't repay whoever it is that helps me, the least I can do is hunt down whatever you need for you.

Yes yes, more accurately a substance I developed over a year year ago to fix Sephiroth's sword and prevent it from breaking again! And as far as I know his sword still holds together as of today!

I have everything needed in the workshop to put back the sword together and start working on solidifying it. For the strengthening mixture however, I will need some chemicals found only in the laboratory on the twenty-seventh floor. It is quite a dangerous place, so I'll ask my assistant if you cannot go there yourself!

That's the lab floor, right? I don't think I've been there more than once...

[Aside from, perhaps, when she had been wandering about the tower during that horrible brainwashing experiment, but she would really like to avoid thinking about that.]

But I think I'll be okay. Just tell me where exactly the items you need are, and I'll be very careful when retrieving them.

Very well then! Just bring the chemicals and the sword fragments to the workshop when you'll have the time, and I'll start working on it.

[ Doc sends her a list with a couple chemical elements-- With their symbols and atomic numbers as well as their more common names. Two of them are written in red however. ]

A bottle of each will be more than enough but please be careful! These two elements are particularly unstable, if you were to accidentally drop them the results would be absolutely disastrous!

[There's a moment as Hakuno turns away from the screen, rummaging around until she finds a pen and paper, and immediately jots down the list. Not that she doesn't trust her own memorization skills, but... just gotta be sure.]

Will they only be harmful if I drop them? Not that I'm planning on throwing the bottles around or anything... but I'll have to plan on making sure I go gather all this stuff during a time when monsters aren't more common wandering the halls.

[ Doc thought for a second and then nodded. ]

Yes yes! Well of course if you start shaking them wildly I don't answer of what will happen, but as long as you are a little bit careful with them you should be fine.

... Geez, who would do a crazy thing like that? Dangerous or not, it just seems like a bad idea to go shaking strange chemicals around...

I am quite skilled at special swords, and forging many items of a mystic nature... I'd be willing to take a look.

It's not really mystical in nature, I don't think... aside from the fact that a friend of mine made it with alchemy, I guess. But it doesn't have any magical purposes.

I can't just... find another Servant.

For one thing, I don't really know any of the others aside from that Black Saber, and I don't know her well, so I can't just ask her to look out for me.

And I also can't do it because that would feel too much like replacing my Saber. I could never do that, even if she isn't here now. I didn't do it when Caster showed up claiming to be my Servant, so I can't do that with a total stranger.

"Finding another Servant" isn't an option for me at all. The only other option is to learn how to defend myself.

if you want to get sentimental about your Servant, that's no skin off my nose, but try not to completely lose sight of reality in the meantime.

How is wanting to protect myself "losing sight of reality"? Plenty of other people here can do it just fine on their own. Just because I once had someone fighting for me isn't a reason to remain defenseless forever.

I don't really care how strong your new Servant is, Shinji, so there's no point in trying to make me jealous. I didn't want to fight any of the other Masters before, and that still hasn't changed.
