Fourth Case [Anonymous Text - Backdated to 4th]

There is an issue that has been in my mind for quite a few months, people of Animus.

As you all know, our worlds were somehow destroyed and, somehow, we were ‘saved’ by our souls being brought here and inserted into hideous wireframe constructs. Supposedly, we are still alive, despite the fact that we were ripped from our own bodies. ‘Death’, in a matter of speaking, is not permanent – we are just give a new ‘body’ to inhabit. However, in less than a year, when the Glamour system runs out, we will truly ‘die’ and not come back.

Some of us, however, are working to restore our worlds and bring us back there. The administrators claim to be doing that themselves. Whether or not they truly mean to do that, I cannot tell.

Would you believe that such a feat is truly possible, however, considering our own conditions and that of our worlds? Do you think that, somehow, the administrators can bring our worlds back so that we can return home? Or do you believe that we can find a way ourselves and stop the administrators before our time runs out next year?

Suffice to say, I am very doubtful of this idea, considering its sheer absurdity. However, as this entire tower is full of things that completely contradict proper logic, I am not sure if I can completely disregard it.

[At first, part of Diarmuid wants to be angry at Edgeworth's words, but then he thinks about his roommate's attitude and what has just happened to him and the anger fades away.]

I understand.

I realize that you are not likely to agree with me on this since we come from places that view justice in vastly different ways, but the courtroom in not always the proper place to deal with people. Some wrongs must be righted in a more...personal way. Death is not always the answer either. Some find a joy in that. I am not sure yet the best way for us to deal with the Administrators, but I am sure we will find the appropriate ways for each of them.

Not quite accurate. We look for the truth and find ways to set ourselves free so that we can get our worlds restored and see to it that the Administrators pay for what they have done. I think these things are really all tied together. Separating them is likely impossible and, honestly, unneeded if you ask me.

I would rather be overly optimistic and fight until my last breath than to just give up and wait for the end. I have been broken once by this place. I am not going to allow it to happen again. Instead, they will find themselves broken. I will accept nothing else.

Why do I get the feeling you think me foolish for thinking that way? Someone must, Edgeworth, for all those who have forgotten how.

You and me both. Do not think I don't doubt, Edgeworth, for I do, but in the end doubting leads us nowhere. If we wish to succeed, we must try and doubting keeps people from even trying when it is given enough power.

No one said trying was easy. I am afraid it is the exact opposite, but that is the very reason it can be so rewarding when things go well. Isn't there a modern saying that is something along the lines of 'nothing ventured, nothing gained?' Try hard enough and anything can be done.

Nothing was every done by one who didn't at least try.

Ah, I should have guessed as much. My apologies, Edgeworth, for the misunderstanding. There is a reason I am not a big fan of the Network. Words without faces or voices to go with them are very easy to misunderstand.

Thank you.

As for doubting, we all do it. I don't ask people not to doubt. What I ask them it to keep that doubt from controlling them and keeping them from taking action. It's not easy, but what is the alternative? Especially in a place like this?
