So. That month certainly happened. As usual I'll be the contrary fool who points out that leaping directly for Jason's throat was foolish and hastily conceived. I hope at least some of you understand that outright murdering the one person that makes our own deaths a minor inconvenience would be ill-advised at best. When next this opportunity presents itself, I advise that quick planning should lead to a less half-baked idea.

[Deadpan as ever (or perhaps even more so), Waver appeared today in much better shape than he had been the previous month, though for some reason he was currently lacking the usual sunglasses. If not for the frown set deeply on his face and disapproving tone, one might dare think he might have been in a good mood.]

Now that that's been said--and without touching upon specifics--I'd like to hear how everyone else is faring at the moment. [It would be stupid to outright say HEY GUYS HOW'D THE COLLAR EXPERIMENT GO FOR YOU ALL, so Waver elected to be vague.]

If anyone should care to answer that, I have quite a lot of work to do- [He idly held up a number of sheets of what appeared to be parchment, the topmost one having runic writing on it.] -so I will most likely be found on floor twenty-seven in a half hour or so. [And for the next few days without a break, probably.]

[There followed a short pause, after which the severity in the cold and British accented speech lessened slightly.]

...My disapproval of the methods aside, congratulations. Ill-advised or not, you did accomplish something. Don't allow yourselves to think this a failure.

Magic Circuits are complicated, really--it's not a simple concept to explain in detail. I believe they are also linked to one's soul, so that's likely how they're still able to work.

[A shrug.]

I don't think souls are considered a clear and tangible thing to many people, to tell you the truth.

[He nodded and took out a fresh piece of paper to write down what Waver had told him.] That is about the only common thing I can tell about them, from what people have told me. That they are not tangible but many worlds consider them real.

Even then they have differing ideas about what a soul holds, though it seems that whatever constitutes a soul here is all of our memories and personalities.

It's difficult to go into what constitutes a 'soul' on my world. That's a field of study a little beyond even my scope of understanding. However, I personally always assumed something to that effect. A soul is--or should be--the information and sentiment that makes up an individual as 'themselves'.

Isn't it all just stored in our brains though? [He blinked] Everything that makes us have thoughts and feelings are chemicals and electrical pulses in our brains, I am not sure why a soul would be needed.

That's where the distinction turns a bit difficult, isn't it? Logically speaking, you would be right. But obviously, there's something more that stubbornly evades description.

There is, but only because I have seen it here. Before I would have said that everything we needed was stored in our brains. I just don't understand with all the research that the scientists of my world did, they never discovered any evidence of a soul. [At least he didn't think they had, it had never been mentioned]

Like I said, the definition of 'soul' is complex where I'm from. I know it's needed to perform magecraft, like a source of our energy. Past that, I don't really know what to call it or how to show evidence of its existence.

I never really considered it further than that until it became an actual issue here. I'm sure the definitions and philosophy vary from world to world.

[Shion nodded] I am sure they do, yet they all take the same form here, I wonder if that has something to do with how we are brought here. That something that all worlds see differently and some don't see at all can be brought to this place and treated the same way, to the same affect, artificial bodies that house souls and therefore replicate that person in their entirety.

[It was something Shion thought was important to know how it was done, before they had any chance of reversing it.]

That's an idea. So you think they convert whatever our respective worlds define as a 'soul' or the equivalent information into a single common form?

...Sounds like sound logic, really. God only knows how it's done, but it seems a reasonable concept.

It's the only thing I can think of. [He nodded] Which might mean we will have to convert them back, if we somehow manage to restore the worlds and our bodies.

If there was a method to convert them one way, converting them again should in theory be doable. That's just simple mathematics, isn't it?

Well sort of [Blink blink] But I doubt it will be simple, there will be a whole new set of equations and such to work out.
