[Feferi hears Eridan's footsteps before she sees him, turning slowly. He looks older. She expected that, after she talked with Willow.

The uncertainty on his face is more surprising; she's used to her own Eridan, all bluster, exaggerating his emotions at every opportunity. All she can do is smile, taking a few steps towards him.

It's hard, once she sees his expression closer-up, but the smile remains, soft and a little uncertain. It fades once she hears those words, though she doesn't stop moving in his direction.]

I - no, I'm not. And I'm sorry she isn't here. I can tell that she means a lot to you.

[She's smiling, and it's the most painfully sweet expression. The teal Feferi isn't at all like this, looking so much like his own, and even looking at him with affection. Though she looks like his memories of her, rather than his current Feferi, it's close enough that it closes his wind tube and makes him want to rush to her, swing her up into his arms as she glubs her laughter, and cover her with pale kisses. And he's terrified he'll break if he were to try it and she pushed him away. So he stands rooted to the spot, fins flat and quivering with emotion]

She's...she's my wworld, my wwhole fuckin' wworld. [He takes a step towards her, then halts again] Wwhat's Eridan to you?

[That single statement makes her wind tube hurt and tears prick at the corners of her eyes. It was something she hadn't heard from her Eridan, and she only just stops herself from running up and hugging him.

The truth of it is that she simply couldn't handle hers anymore, after a point. Feferi had always been so busy keeping Eridan from hurting the world - and now that she thinks about it, she had tried to keep the world from hurting him - that she didn't think of how he'd felt about her. But it hadn't been equal, and that was the problem; she'd given and given and given, to the point she had run out of energy. She would have been okay with that, had he given anything back, but it wasn't that way, hadn't been for some time.

She hadn't stopped caring, though, and she doubted she ever would. It surprises her when her smile doesn't fade much.]

He was dear as diamonds to me - [Her voice cracks, just a bit. The words surprise her, just slightly. ] but I was never sure that the reverse was true.

[His eyes widen and though she speaks in past tense, and he knows in his think pan that she's talking about another Eridan, one who's probably a goldblood dripping with jewels and with a glamorous life and prime future instead of a simple one living on a rock in a wrecked ship in the middle of the fucking ocean and the whole world ready to give him a kick. Even though he knows all that, her tears make him forget, and before he can stop himself he's jerked forward as if on strings and he's wrapping his arms around her, lifting her up as he pictured before and kissing her on the cheek]

Oh cod, you silly thing, my dear princess a the sea. Don't you cry noww. I can't fuckin' stand it wwhen you glub.

[Feferi can't help but meet him halfway, arms going around his neck. She's still a little teary, but she manages to swallow around the lump in her throat and give him a smile. Once he picks her up, she makes a noise that's half-crying and half-laughing at first, before that gives way to giggling. She returns the kiss, then leans up to kiss his temple.

There's a part of her that asks 'why couldn't my Eridan have been like this?', but she doesn't say it. All she can do is just be in the moment.]

[With her in his arms, giggling and giving him that sweet kiss, he can almost forget that she's not really his Feferi. It's hard to remember exactly why it matters.

He holds her almost forever, sniffling into her hair, before finally speaking up in a watery voice.]

You're real swweet. But so...so I guess you're a highblood?

It doesn't matter, shouldn't matter, not now, not ever. The color of a person's blood doesn't make them any better or any worse than anyone else. Never has, no matter what people say.

[She moves a hand down to rub circles over his back.]

Don't let anyone ever tell you different.

[He swallows] I knoww that. I knoww it. There's nothin' fuckin' wwrong wwith me an I'm as good as any ten goldbloods.

[And then he bursts into tears and clings to her, sobbing. She's not his Feferi, but she's good. She's great. She's definitely good enough for him to work with, okay?]

Cod, I lovve you. I missed you so fuckin' much...

You are. Always will be.

[Feferi pulls him closer, stroking his hair and kissing his forehead. She knows he's not her Eridan, but that doesn't matter. She's as pale as it gets for him.]

Ssh, now. Ssh, love. My diamond, my prince. I'm here now. It's all right. You don't need to cry. I've got you, love.

[The sobbing quiets to sniffling, but he doesn't let go. He knows this would probably look pretty embarrassing, two trolls hugging it out like some kind of pale porno in the middle of the hallway, but he doesn't care.]

I...asked the towwer to bring my Fef here. But instead they killed her, and gavve me her corpse all bloody an mangled, an...I wwent serious vviolent blood murder mode, Fef. I needed you so bad, and I think I killed her wwhen I asked them to bring her. Killed her for real, wwith no comin' back.

[If anything, she just hugs tighter. It doesn't matter what it looks like to anyone else, as far as she's concerned.]

I can't even imagine what that was like. And I think anyone would have gone into murder mode, in that situation. I don't blame you, and I don't think anyone who knows what happened would blame you.

I...I can't say what happened outside. I wish I could tell you that she's okay, that she's safe, all of that. What I can say is that I will do everything in my power to get you back home to her. Until that day, you've got me. Promise.

[He nods. Best day ever, it is this day. Or at least, pretty damn close to it. He can't quite believe that Feferi is being this accommodating.

He draws back a little, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand and grimacing at the stains on her shirt]

Wwhat about...your Eridan? The highblood douchebag one. You're moirails wwith him? He's not here, anymore, either.

It's complicated...

[She sighs, looking down and frowning.]

I care a lot about him, am still pale for him, but I don't know if it was ever reciprocated, at least like that. He wanted something bright red from me, but I was always looking after him, calming him down, keeping him from going off the handle. It's hard, that kind of one-sided relationship.

[Seriously? He tried to get to red through pale? That's the most dumbass thing Eridan's ever heard, and he's heard a few doozies]

Wwhat a fuckin' idiot. Wwell, you don't got a wworry about that from me, Fef. I'm as pale as the drivven snoww for you, AN I got myself a matesprit wwith wwhom I share the purest a serendipity.

I honestly don't know what the shell he was thinking. All I know is that he definitely tried cutting through pale to get to red, and it definitely didn't work. All it did was mess things up.

[Feferi just grins, then giggles.]

Willow told me! I cod not be happier for you two. I only just met her, but she's been so sweet to me, and I'm glad to have her as a friend. We're going to meet up soon to grab food and have a gab session. Whale, mostly the latter.

Wwhale, a course it did. That's all somethin' like that wwould do.

[He grins back at her, drawing back with his hands on her shoulders to get a good long look at her. All that finery! Not cockleshells and rough ocean pearls, but real gold and diamonds! It doesn't make her any more or less beautiful to him, though, either way]

Wwill's been the only thing holdin' me together this last perigee, an make no mistake about that. She's the swweetest girl I could evver ask for, exceptin you, a course. I'vve no doubt you'll lovve her no less than I do.

Yeah. It sucked. It was like - I don't even know.

[Feferi's cheeks tint pink. She's used to fancy things, pretty little baubles and such, but they're not the most important things.

And so she slides one of the bangles off her wrist - gold with their signs engraved into it. She smiles and slips it on his wrist.]

So you always have a little of me there, even when I can't be there physically.

I know I will. She's such a sweetie, and it's wonderful to know you're there for each other.

[Eridan opens his mouth to remind Feferi that he has her ring, remember? But of course that's another Feferi's ring, and she doesn't wear his own on her finger.]

I don't havve...a ring for you. But I'll make you one.

[At the mention of that, she looks down at his hands - she hadn't looked that closely before. But now, she is, and she notes the symbols, the stones that are there. It's the pink shell diamond that catches her eye, and she smiles. There's no way she can say no, not when the meaning is so clear.]

I - I'd be absolutely honored.

[He flushes purple at that, and nods] Wwell, you might havve to wwait a little. I'vve got to find a shell a the right colour.
