[Wheeze oh no he was hoping she'd be further away lksjdflkj Give him a second to collect his thoughts. Or... collect his feelings? There are not a whole lot of thoughts going on right now, and the longer he waits, the worse it gets. BLUH!!! THIS IS TERRIBLE. HE HAS A LOT OF FEELINGS ON THE SUBJECT OF PALE CRUSHES DYING even if this one did end up coming back]

[Fuck this, he is going to be a mess no matter how long he waits. Plucks himself up and kind of... hurries... up the stairs and of course spots her immediately. So uh... yep, loops his arm around her waist and drags her to him. Right the fuck now. She don't get a choice in the matter tbh!!!]

[She jumps slightly when he grabs her. Really, she should be used to this by now, but she still tenses every time he hugs her, though she gets a little more comfortable with each one. This time, she even hugs him back pretty promptly. She's been kind of a mess since she came back, and it shows. She'd actually died this time, not the psuedo dead-for-a-few-seconds-and-then-revive thing she was so used to, and it hadn't changed a thing. It hadn't been liberating at all like she'd expected it to be, just painful and slow and horrible. And there'd been a terrible moment when she was stuck in sleep paralysis this morning where she was absolutely certain Lord English was standing over her bed. It was a hallucination, or some weird nightmare, but it had still left her shaken. So her grip might be just a bit tighter than usual this time.]

[...oh. The fact she hugs him back that quickly is... heart breaking??? Of course he knows she is hesitant about being touch, so the fact she does it so willingly now must mean she's... a mess. Which he knew already from looking at her, but really. Having it confirmed makes it worse somehow]

[He's sort of... breathless and weak with pity all of a sudden, and he leans against the wall for support, pressing a kiss to the top of her head and squeezing his arm around her. He's silent. Words have never been his thing and that is incredibly apparent right now. He just... has no words for this!!!]

[That makes her blush, and she buries her face in his shoulder so that he can't see it. He seems... Pretty shaken up though.]

Are you okay?

[HE IS NOT OKAY AT ALL. And he is worse with her asking that, like somehow his being upset is more important then her dying. AGAIN]

[His voice is terribly soft, and sort of hollowed out]

I'm sorry...

[She doesn't get this at all. None of it makes sense.]

[She peeks up at him, brow furrowed slightly.]

[She's so... stupid...]

[Flinches a little at her gaze, looking away]

I wasn't-- [there] I couldn't. Do anything. [Except talk and god knows, talking never did him munch of any good at all] Sorry...

[WHAT this completely baffles her???]

[...stays silent for a moment, still not looking at her, but his arm tightens around her even more]

[She shrugs a little, and now it's her turn to look away.]

[Nope! Reaches up with his free hand to brush through her hair and tug on her horn slightly. Doesn't say anything, just... waiting for her to not lie to him welp]

[UGHHHH he is so weird. She's making a face!]

[LKSJDF DON'T MAKE A FACE AT HIM!! Sighs faintly]

[She is silent for a pretty long time! Probably just long enough for him to think she's going to ignore him, actually.]

I just... thought I saw something.

[HE ACTUALLY... has a lot of faith that she'll answer him, so while yes the silence is sort of frustratingly long, at no point does he think she won't say anything]

[She nods, then figures he's going to want a better explanation than that.]

[She's not really sure if she's ready to talk about it, or if she'll ever be ready. She shrugs.]

[Quietly... makes connections... and he feels pretty confident assuming it was probably... whoever her highblood is. The one who made her like this. Reaches up... sorta hesitantly and... rubs his knuckles over her cheek. Half a pap]

[That was the weirdest pap ever. And she might be stupid when it comes to quadrants, but not that stupid. She gets what he's doing, and she's not really sure how to deal with it. That doesn't stop her from leaning into him, though.]

[lakjsdfljasdlj don't judge his weird pap okay. He was half afraid she was going to reject him for it, so the fact she leans on him instead is... encouraging!!! He doesn't do it again though, just kinda content to hug her and toy with her hair a little]

[TOTALLY GROSS but his half-shoosh is working! She's relaxing, anyway, and she's pretty content to just stay here.
