First Fantasy Killed [Video]

[Someone was not pleased and it definitely shows. The video feed was now showcasing an absolutely livid spiky-haired Asian. He was tightly gripping some sort of paper, but it was impossible to tell what exactly was on it.]

Can someone please explain to me what the hell is this?

[He suddenly shoves that paper right in front of the camera for everyone to see. Everybody here should be able to easily recognize what it was; it's the letter given to all new arrivals to inform them of their planet's demise.

After a couple of seconds, the letter was hastily removed.]

Just what kind of sick joke is this! Am I seriously expected to believe that the Earth is gone! All those millions of people completely wiped away without a trace! This stupid letter doesn't even bother to give a reason for why it's gone and just expects me to accept that it happened! Like hell I will!

[He takes a moment to calm down and his livid expression soon softens to a far more somber one.]

I want to know who was the person that "saved" me. I have some very important questions for them.

Alright, calm down. Nothing's going to happen if you've got your knickers in a twist. I'd say take it with a grain of salt, eh? Not everyone believes it and sure as blazes not everyone will.

Wager you haven't seen the scopes on the third floor then?

I know I need to calm down. It's just this whole situation troubles me.

[He lets out a barely audible sigh.]

S'not really important but... it'll give you a little something to think about, eh? See, I've got my doubts but let's just say they've got proof of that they're just not blowing wind out their arse about the whole "world being destroyed" malarkey.

[You definitely got his attention with that promise.]

Really? Guess I have to take a look at those scopes sometime latter.

[ There's a moment though as he considers this. ]

Some blokes in the tower have actually gone back. They've seen their worlds destroyed.

If there's no reasoning then why believe it?

I don't, but it does bother me. The very fact that I've been "saved" and mysteriously brought here does raise some red flags.

I cannot speak with complete confidence on the matter, but I am in agreement with you. I cannot believe that such a thing is possible. It is my opinion that the letter is false.

I wonder why anyone would bother to prepare such a vague letter to explain the situation. It creates more questions then answers.

[He gives an exasperated sigh before continuing.]

Are you familiar with Academy City?

I am not.

Is that where you are from? Is it in Japan?

[He answers her questions with an affirming nod.]

I wasn't in Academy City before I woke up here, but it is my home.

I see. Well, I have heard of no such place. My apologies.

.. The Earth being gone.. is it really that bad?

[ the teen girl says it with a completely blank voice, even. ]

[Touma briefly paused to stop himself from impulsively yelling "Of course, you idiot!" at the strange girl. He needed to stay calm.]

Isn't it obvious? If the Earth was gone, all those millions of people would be gone as well.

But they wouldn't even know that they're gone, right? And you would know that they're gone, but you don't even know all of those people either way, there's too many of them.

[This time he didn't hold back. Her causal dismissal has filled him with righteous fury.]

That doesn't justify their deaths at all! How the hell is the death of the entire human population rendered pointless because they can't realize their own demise? The dead can't mourn for themselves and I would be the only one left to do so. Yes, it would be impossible for me to personally know everybody on the planet, but that in no way would mean their deaths hold no significance! Why should I only acknowledge those I have bonded with?

Because.. those people didn't acknowledge you either, right? [ Despite his anger, she still seems rather calm - almost as if she doesn't understand it. ]

If you'd die, would those people acknowledge it?

[Still raging!]

Why should that even matter? Those people shouldn't be dismissed just because they wouldn't acknowledge my death! What matters is an entire world's worth of irreplaceable lives has been lost!

So.. you are the kind of person who would care about people who don't even care about you? [ ... ] That's.. kind, right?

[He managed to calm himself down again. Now that he was done raging, he noticed just how unsure she was with her own conclusion.]

"Kind" is a simple way to describe it. I'm the type of person that would reach out to help others regardless of our relationship or lack of it.

[ she's just trying to figure this all out in her own way, she's just a little.. weird, honestly. ]

Hmm, then that really is kind. A lot of people aren't that way. But.. even so.. I think everyone would be glad to meet a person like you.

[He says that with the calmest tone he can muster. Kirito already accepted the fact, despite it hurts him so much that Asuna, or everyone else in particular was killed mercilessly.]

I'm calm now, but let me make this clear; this entire situation still irritates me. Why does my "savior" expect me to automatically believe my world is gone? The only certainty is the fact I've been dragged off to an unknown place.

[Touma hasn't accepted the possibility that his world and everybody on it was permanently wiped away. He will tightly hold on to the idealistic notion that the complete destruction of his home was a fabrication.]

[He can somehow relate himself to Touma's way of thinking. Still...]

While I agree with your outburst, I can somewhat believe that our worlds are gone. [A small pause.] Or at least, mine is.

How do you know for certain that it's truly gone?

Eh? What does that even mean? How can someone inhabit the body of a video game character?

Because Sword Art Online was a VRMMORPG. [He pauses a moment, before he continues with the anagram.] Virtual-Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

Uuuh, I hope you understand it.

Not really. It must be a ridiculously advanced game to allow an avatar to interact with the physical world. Not even the highly technological city I came from has something that amazing. Still, that doesn't explain why that makes the possibility of your world's destruction plausible. In fact, it makes things more confusing. If what I'm looking at is your avatar, where is your real body?

That sums it generally, though. [A pause.] Truth to be told, my real body should lay somewhere else and if I pull my NerveGear away from my head, I should be out of the game.

[And dead, but he won't say it.] Which is basically saying, I've tried that but nothing happened. So I'll conclude that my real body is either non-existent already or... this 'savior' did something unimaginable to prevent me from going back to my real body.
