So Thanksgiving is coming up, at least for the country I was living in for a long time.

For those of you who don't know, there's a historical basis behind it but the main idea nowadays is to get together with family and friends, stuff your faces, watch sports, and think of things you're thankful for.

So, tower residents. What are you thankful for?

I suppose I should be glad there's no possible way for family I don't like to show up, since I care deeply for all of them. But I do know it's different for other people.

Well, some people aren't so lucky. But that's good. :)

Then why won't you tell me what you're thankful for?

I'm thankful I'm alive for a little longer.

And I'm thankful I at least had the chance to have a family for a little while. Most people like me don't get to.

[forfeiture]

People like you? [ it might be a little insensitive, but she can't help but wonder.. ] Everyone deserves to have a family though.

[hachitaro]

Most demons or other supernatural creatures can't blend in like tanuki can.

[forfeiture]

I married one, actually. [ Normally she wouldn't say it that easily, but.. this place is different from back home, there isn't as much of a demon threat here, huh? Sure, there's other threats, but nothing that would have anything against her personally. ]

A demon, that is. I've never heard of tanuki before.

[hachitaro]

Oh. I've... heard of people having kids with some, but not outright marrying them.

A tanuki is a sort of supernatural creature... we look a little bit like raccoons, if you know what those are. But we can shapeshift and cast illusions.

I have to admit it was a slightly exceptional case. We did have kids too, though. [ She can't help but smile a little as she thinks back on it, it's really been a long time since she last saw him, huh..? ]

I've heard of raccoons before. I didn't know there were supernatural creatures like them though.. so you shapeshift into human-like forms?

Or whatever we'd like, but human forms are popular and useful for blending in.

So you do you keep that form even in this tower? I'm sure people are used to seeing strange things here.

[hachitaro]

True. But thumbs are useful.

[forfeiture]

[ okay, okay, she can't help but chuckle a little at that to herself. ]

You make a good point. They certainly make typing on these things easier too, I imagine.

[hachitaro]

Pretty much. And tanuki tend to not really hang out together, so it makes finding friends easier.

Well, I would not mind talking to you more often. Tanuki or no tanuki.
