[For the most part, Lancer had been avoiding the comms. He knew where to find his friends and Master in person. The language barrier wasn't that much of a problem because both he and Ayaka spoke Japanese, and most of the other Servants should be speaking it too unless they had been caught up in the language switching.]

[However, right now, there was something he really wanted to ask the tower at large. That is, something besides whether or not he could still communicate with his fellow Servants. That morning, he had found a stack of papers in his room. Papers that told him he was now a janitor. He's not quite sure what it means.]

[So now he's standing at a console, papers in hand. He also has a pen which he snatched from one of his roommates, just in case he ran into someone who didn't speak the same languages that he did. He speaks in English first, as slowly and clearly as he can.]

Hey, my name is Lancer. How many of you can still understand me? How many of my kind can still understand me? If you understand what I am saying, contact me back, maybe with video. I have a question I want to ask.

[He repeats the words in Japanese, and then Gaelic on the off-chance that someone can speak that.]

Yeah, but why do they exist in the first place? We're not getting paid and we already have drones.

Possibly to establish habitual obedience, to train residents in job skills -- assuming that we eventually leave the tower -- or because the dones are limited.

People I know have taken advantage of job assignments in order to gather information.

What type of information? How the Tower works? How the administrators think?

Among other things. It would depend on the type of work you do and where you are assigned. However, I imagine that any work might give you some clues about the tower.

I'm a janitor. Right now the only thing I think I can find out is how many colors of poop are left in the toilets after one of Jason's meals.

So is he. In a position like that, people do not pay attention to you and may speak openly around you.

That does sound like something I can deal with. And if I'm done quickly, I get vacations, right?

I wouldn't know, I think that's up to them. However, you may actually get an answer if you are doing a job.

And who decides what "actually doing a job" means?

[calculatedfire]

The people assigning it. However, I do not know what the punishment for avoiding an assigned job.

I heard it was sending drones to beat you to death or something

They do similar if you fail to report for a collar check, so that would fit.

Monsters can be killed easily enough. Why not drones?

You can try, but I have not seen anyone successful. I was not able to damage them in any way.

Maybe I'll be the first.

[Because no Servants had attempted it before, right?]

It's a worthwhile attempt.

[He's still fairly new to this place...]

I'll tell you if it works.

Even if it does not, any information about weaknesses could be useful.

Can robots be really killed?

You can smash them beyond repair, can't you?

What powers do you have? Do you have any experience with technology of this level?

[This was asked out of curiosity rather than doubt.]

Not much experience with tech, but I've got experiences with kicking ass. And I'm much stronger than any human, so smashing some tin cans shouldn't be a problem

Not really. It's complicated.
