[02] || [What is Love?] || [Video/Text]

Greetings.

[ As is usual for Data, his message is simultaneously sent in both video and text formats. ]

There has been a weeding recently and in one week is an event known as "Saint Valentine's Day", a holiday associated with romantic love. It is an occasion in which lovers express their love for each other in a special manner, most often depending on their culture and past.

But what is love? How would you define that feeling? I have been told about love before, but it is a most... complicated emotion and no explanation I have heard truly conveyed an understanding of the feeling.

Sadly, that viewpoint probably is a bit incompatible. It's often been said that love is one of the more illogical emotions people posses.

It's good that you can understand why it may grow or die though! As for why that love may be different..let's say that a husband and a wife love each other so much that they have sex on a regular basis. However, while they would probably love their children, they wouldn't love them in the same way and invite their children to join them in these sessions.

Well, I won't go so far as to call the the opposite of absolute logic. But it is a little bit more illogical than most emotions. It's good to hear that you're starting to understand it a bit better though!

Right, you've got it. Well..other people have probably been ignoring it because they've been too embarrassed to talk about it. I just don't see the point in beating around the bush in a situation like this.

Hmm...probably apathy. But that's just my personal opinion.

Well, I can see why people would be to embarrassed to mention it in a discussion like this. Humans are taught from a very young age that those sorts of things are private, and bringing them up in public leads to people admonishing whoever does bring it up and that person usually feels shame for doing so.

[Tohko then chuckled to herself as she typed. Data..]

I know there's no actual bush to beat. It was just a metaphor.

Well, because after reading a lot of books and encountering and thinking about different scenarios, I find it hard to not care about things. But that's just how I feel.

And that's probably because Riker wasn't so affected by this as other people. How much it affects someone depends upon the person, you see, but most will get really embarrassed and will try to avoid speaking about it.
