8th Contract

[Hei's up, though if you look closer, you can tell he is very tired. The one thing that might let people know he is more awake is the little mogwai poking at his face, and the eye-twitching he was having.]

My apologies for being absent. [Not that it was his choice.] At any rate, I have been told a few things, but if there is anything I missed, I would appreciate being informed.

I am still recruiting teachers for the school system now in place thanks to Ishtar. For those that missed her network post, I am recruiting various people to put together a bunch of teachers to teach others within the tower. Currently, there is a listing here, and there is not set limit so far on the number of teachers for the subject, as new teachers can offer new input or new ways to educate the subject matter. Students are free to attend as well, and all those interested should meet at the library.

Currently, Cecil and I are teaching combat in place of Reno, for those that are unaware of his...absence. Cecil specializes in weapon's training, while I shall stick with hand-to-hand combat. Just a fair warning: during my training--[He finally growls a bit and sets Mao down onto the floor before looking back at the camera seriously.] I don't hold back during those sessions, at least not by much. Fair warning.

[The feed cuts just as you can hear the whine of the Mogwai, and see Hei about to pick him back up.]

[Yata's not too interested in the commotion on screen. He's having a listen to what the guy's saying. While he may not have done well in school and may not be what you'd consider an orthodox teacher, he would feel better in a social group.]

Back home I was the vanguard of Homra. We weren't official law enforcement, but we sure used our power to keep the streets clean. Some people [his tone is bitter here, as though he's speaking about a very specific person] considered us no better than thugs, but we never laid a finger on anyone that was behaving themselves. I may not be much of a teacher, but my experience might help.

I'm going to need to hear more about your story first before anything. Considering showing an example might be a bit difficult, it might be best to do tell first.

[At least he caught Hei's interest.]

[Yata's still pretty young and used to following orders, so he's not exactly forthcoming without prompts.]

Sure, I'll tell you anything you want to know. Ask away.

[He fidgets a little, hoping this guy will ask questions instead of having him just start explaining things.]

I want to know what your group was, and why you formed it, the people against it as well. We'll start with that.

Eh? I didn't form it. Mikoto-san did. He made it because, well, he's the Red King. And kings form clans. No one's really against it, although plenty of people would prefer to not deal with us. We don't care too much for shitheads who cause trouble for others. We like to make trouble for those types.

And to what extent do you get involved with doing that?

I was the vangard of the group. I was always in the middle of everything, even if I wasn't the focus.

Then if I were to allow you to teach, what would you actually teach others?

Well, I'd most likely teach groups how to organize. I'm fairly decent at hand-to-hand combat, but I'm sure there are plenty of others that could fill that spot.

I think I'll have you focus on teamwork in combat. Considering the number of people training, working in teams can help.

[He didn't expect much, but the basics could save him some time.]

Sounds good to me! I know I'm young and all, but trust me, I know what I'm doing!

[There's a hint of pride and confidence in his voice. After all, he considers Homra something really noteworthy.]

I'll assign you as a teacher for now. Don't disappoint.

[ For a while, Cecil is very distracted by the little creature with Hei. She doesn't know what it is, nor has she ever seen it before, so her curiosity is also partially adoration. It's actually... rather endearing.

Ah, but she does have something she wants to say about the school. ]

Hei... I respect your right to run your classes as you see fit, but... don't you think you should be at least somewhat gentle to our more inexperienced students?

[ She's too polite to say so, but the idea of him saddling more people with injuries than he gives them defense skills worries her a lot. ]

Better they learn now then on the field. And it's not as if I will go around breaking their arms.

[Last thing he needed was either them freezing out of fear and die, or face injuries. The real Hei was strict with Suou, but never on a level that truly threatened her being.]

[ She's still not so sure it's a wise idea, but she decides to put her faith in the belief that Hei knows what he's doing, nodding to show her understanding, and she sees no reason to pry further about how he will run his lessons. ]

If you say you won't, then I trust you.

[ She hesitates for a brief moment, then asks: ]

Ah... if you don't mind me asking, what was that creature with you just now?

That's Mao. I believe the facility referred to him as a mogwai.

[And have said creature wave back to Cecil with a smile.]

[ Cecil can't really help that she giggles softly at the little creature waving to her. ]

Mao. It's nice to meet you.

[ She waves back, unaware that she's behaving much more girlish than a knight ought ever behave. She has that tendency sometimes when she's quite fascinated with something. ]

What facility do you mean?

[Mao cheers at the screened affection, and settles down as Hei begins to explain.]

Before the tower, I was within a facility that created clones. They...tortured us on a weekly basis with little time to rest.

[ That chases the smile from Cecil's face rather quickly and she looks a little horrified. ]

Torture? I'm so sorry... and then for you to be put here...

[ It goes unsaid, but her tone clearly implies that she is wondering if the Tower is worse or better than that facility. ]

If you are wondering, the facility is a worse place in my opinion at least. For starters, we rarely even had food, only those health bars Jason is obsessed with giving us. And experiments often turned us against one another.

Not that I wish either place exists mind you.

I'm so sorry... It's hard to imagine a place worse than this. At least you are... safer from in-fighting here.

Somehow I doubt it. The beings here....they are more powerful than I could imagine.

[ Cecil sighs and bows her head. He makes a good point. ]

That is true. And that is the place you got Mao from?

Correct. I had more people there, but the numbers from the facility to here are hardly in the single digits now.

I wish that weren't so. Is there anything else I can do for you? To help.

Just keep up the work at the school, and try to keep others from preventing chaos. That is most important.

[ Cecil nods understandingly, though of course that wasn't quite what she meant. Nevertheless, she doesn't pry any further. ]

A-Ano... are there... any combat classes suitable for beginners?

As said before, those are the only two combat lessons available. If you prefer an easier time, then it would be best to train with Cecil.

I see... Mn. I guess I'll go with Cecil-sensei then. What sort of weapons will he train us in the usage of?

She has only given me some knowledge. Axes, knives, swords are a few I think she is skilled at.

Do we have to prepare our own weapons then or will they be provided?

The weapons should already be on one of the workshop floors. I know I at least saw swords and knives there. Other than that, I would recommend bringing your own weapons.

I see. Well, I see if I can find something of my own then!

If there's anything else you need me for, Hei, feel free to ring me up and hey you really don't look well. Are you sure you should be up and about?

I'm sure. I have done enough being comatose.

Nah, I like being busy. Honestly, your health is important and if you reallt still feel bad, maybe I can try a healing spell or two to help out?

You better. I'm holding you to that seriously. If it means I have to get you myself later I will.

Nothing too bad. I mean I sort of set up the school stuff for you and people were talking about etc, but otherwise not much worth mentioning aside the usual Tower crap.

That's good at least. [He thinks, because Tower being Tower and all.]
