[The General seemed a bit...piqued, yet at the same time somewhat pleased. He absently stripped a dark liquid substance from his sword blade as he spoke quite calmly.]

As a precaution, I would advise avoiding Floors Four and Thirteen until the Tower maintenance crew - whatever it may be - clear both areas of debris. Anyone traveling to either floor, use caution; do not proceed alone, if possible, as we encountered hostile creatures on both floors last night.

[Hence the needed cleanup.]

Doctor Brown, Marty, my thanks again. [Sephiroth actually smiled, although it was tinged with just a bit of...malice.] Your craftsmanship, Doctor, is masterful. I'm in your debt.

Thirdly, should any residents be interested in joining our impromptu patrols or providing assistance and or support, contact either myself or Zack Fair. Experience preferred, but willingness will suffice under these conditions.

Think there's hostiles on every floor, man. Only place I know for sure is safe is the dorms, but...[he shakes his head] I swear I heard something moving in the hallway outside them the other night.

[Which had been rather disconcerting. But probably not as disconcerting as Zack himself is now, sitting against the wall behind Sephiroth with his arms on his knees and trying not to yawn. Late night patrols keep him from his beauty sleep, that's all.]

[Sephiroth shut off the terminal and gave his companion an arched eyebrow.]

Perhaps, but we know those two are infested, pup. Better to warn everyone than let them walk in blind.

Yeah, I know. [He rubs the back of his neck, and for a moment, it seems that's all he's going to say, also disconcertingly quiet for his normal behavior, but he stands and dusts himself off a moment later, smiling faintly.]

How many of those zombie things do you think we took out? Fifty? I lost count after the first half hour in there.

[Sephiroth was tired, too, Shiva knew, but there were still things to be done before he retired for at least a few hours.]

Mm, maybe. Given their...penchant for decapitation, it's impossible to discern an accurate count.

[A nap and a shower would do them both a world of good, it seemed; trying to stifle that yawn is getting rather difficult for Zack now that he's stood up.]

The fact they just kept coming doesn't help, either. Kill one and there's three more coming at you from all sides. It's annoying.

[Captain Obvious, thy name is Zack Fair.]

Yet we managed.

[A quiet chuckle and a tip of his head.]

Go. Shower and sleep, soldier. You're not worth much with your face gaping like it is.

Hey, in case you forgot, we did take out a Zolom once. This was nothing in comparison.

[Granted these guys were only trouble because of cramped quarters and exceedingly annoying numbers, but the meaning is still there. There's pretty much nothing they can't handle after a Zolom met its end thanks to them...even if it's annoying enough to give Zack a headache.]

Yeah, yeah, I hear you. But I'm not going anywhere until you do, so you're not getting rid of me that easily.

[After all, Zack's taken it upon himself to make sure that Sephiroth doesn't run into Hojo alone, if it can be helped. He doesn't like to take chances with his best friend, after all.]

Took forever to get the gore off my coat. [As if he'd forget that. Be serious, Zack Fair.]

Mothering me now, Zack Fair? [Sephiroth chuckled, shaking his head bemusedly. But he pushed out of the chair and rose to his feet, stretching lightly, fighting his own yawn.]

Fine. As you will. Lead the way, Angeal. [A small jest, but a meaningful one.]

You're helping the night watch? [ Disgruntled Cloud is frowning at the terminal, looking tired but not too tired. ]

I was told that there's monsters at night on every floor, including the dorms.

Why so surprised, Cloud? [Honestly.]

I haven't noticed any infestations on the dorm levels. [Pause.] Yet. But the floors I mentioned were quite overrun last night, a point of concern for anyone venturing through.

I didn't expect it. [ No, he expected him to go all 'Where's mother?' right now. Yes, he is being a brat too. ]

I was told something is out there waiting for people to leave. [ Not that he looked; he had other things to think about. ] I get the feeling most people stay in their rooms. Something about getting sick if they stay from them too long.

You should have. [Yeah, that was a mild rebuke in Sephiroth's voice. You only get so many free passes, Cloud.]

Perhaps, but I don't intend to simply laze about while hostiles prowl. I will not allow our "captors" the benefit of anyone's fear.

[ He was going to say something and then bit it back, frowning hard. He couldn't let go of the past encounters with Sephiroth, which made it harder for him to react to this one. Which just made him want to slam his head into the nearest wall and Cloud wasn't sure if the wall was ready for that. ]

I haven't been lazing about.

[Sephiroth nodded, unperturbed.]

Glad to hear it. You're of course welcome to join Zack and myself in our nightly rounds, if you like.

[Sephiroth wouldn't force the issue, but he'd definitely think less of the former cadet if he refused.]

I don't have anything better to do.

[ Because he really doesn't sleep that much, considering the bad dreams and the brooding he does. Maybe going out and beating up on monsters will help him a little. Besides, he needed to keep an eye on Sephiroth. ]

[That was your own fault, Cloud Strife. And Sephiroth's expression said as much.]

Then perhaps we can put your training to good use.

[ Like he asked to get stuck in a vault of Mako while someone experimented on him? Whatever, man. ]

[Unfortunately, Sephiroth chose not to take offense at the cadet's sulk and tone.]

[ ~~AM NOT A CADET!~~ He wonders what Sephiroth would say if he learned about the future world? About Cloud being an eco-terrorist? ]

Fine. [ No salute or 'sir' tagged on the end of that. Cloud will probably show up a half hour early, in a mood because he likes brooding by himself. ]

Yeah, I remember that. [Oh, he's serious. He remembers how much grumbling the General did on the way back about that damned coat, so of course he's serious.

Also, that's a grin. It's not as wide as it could be, considering what was said and that Zack does indeed know the meaning behind that jest, but it's warm. Lighthearted banter does them both so much good. And Zack does indeed lead, looking over his shoulder as they go. Mothering, huh? He hasn't even started.]

Hey, someone's gotta make sure you don't go burning the forest down again, man. We've got enough problems as it is; don't need the tower falling on top of us, too.

Ah, I must see this debris for myself.

[Forget waiting, he'll take notes.]

There are hostile creatures on every non-residential floor, at night. I doubt killing them will do a great deal of good, as their numbers are likely replenished. It is odd, isn't it, that so few are seen during the day? Yet I doubt they are all nocturnal.

Perhaps there are. However, those we encountered seemed a bit more intent on reaching the dormitories than previous. Hence their eradication was necessary.

[Excuse his cool clipped tone; he's tired.]

Replenished or not, damage control is necessary.

Rest assured, SOLDIER, my fit of pique is well and done with. [For now, anyway.]
