[While he usually uses audio settings back home, this time he's going to use video. It might help if someone recognizes him, and not just by voice. Which is why everyone can see that he opted not to use the white jumpsuit (because who really would?), and instead used the clothes that he had found in the trunk. Thank god they gave him brushes, too, or his hair would be a mess.]

This connects to the network, yes? This is Tseng, Director of the Department for Administrative Research. ID Number 46952. [There's no confirmation after that, of course, and his eyes narrow.]

After awaking in room 03-04, I found the letter stating that Gaia had been destroyed. Unbelievable, of course, and whoever has decided to play this kind of prank can be assured that their pay will be docked.

[The collar, too, is a nice touch; just enough that it's annoying, and such a garish color.] I'm more concerned with someone touching my things, and somehow knowing what to pack in that trunk. They also left me without a lighter, if there is anyone willing to lend me one for a moment.

Any and all information from a reliable, spoken source, would be appreciated.

[Zack can wait because he knows it's a lot to take in, though he does eventually start fidgeting. Patience has never been his super-strong suit, and it still shows. But he wouldn't lie; Tseng should know that. He really was on his way to Nibel at the time he got yanked here.]

Yeah, they mentioned that. Everyone gets a letter like that, though. I wouldn't believe it if I were you. We don't have any real proof yet.

[He has to look away for a moment. This is a lot to take in, it really is. When he finally looks back, there's a small, forced smile on his face.]

Do you have a light?

[Zack just shakes his head, both at Tseng's question and at himself. There's clearly something wrong here, but he can't put his finger on what.]

Nope. I've got a Firaga materia, but that's kind of overkill and--[He stops, trailing off. A light? There's not much people need that for!] Tseng, since when have you smoked? I thought you drank tea and stuff like that?

[Might as well get this out of the way. Screw consequences.]

I don't know how to tell you this, Zack, but it has been some time between the incident at Nibelheim and now. Some things have changed. I'm director of the Turks, now.

[Well. That was a random topic change. Have some blinking before he palms the back of his neck.]

That answers that, I guess. [sigh] You look older than when I last saw you, I mean. I figured it'd been a while, but...Director of the Turks, huh? [faint smile.] I guess that means you still get paid a lot more than me, doesn't it?

[He gives a small nod.] Much more then you could ever hope to make.

[Since it's true.] It's been a long time since I've seen you. Are you... okay?

[Pout. He still thinks that's kind of unfair.] Why am I not surprised.

[...and again with the odd questions. Tseng, you're starting to worry him!] Well, yeah. I guess so. I mean, no one's tried to kill me or anything, and we've got food, water, and shelter here, so...I guess things are okay. Still kinda weird, though. You missed one hell of a blackout.

[He's just that much better at his job. A very different job.]

I've heard that we don't always have food? What happened during the blackout?

[Clearly. He didn't get to be Director of the Turks because of his pretty face.]

Nobody really knows for sure. The power went out, and all the food in the cafeteria disappeared with it. There's a place on Floor Thirty-Two where we were able to get some berries and stuff, and some food did show up at random, but it was touch and go for a while. We only got all that stuff back a couple weeks ago.

[Frankly, he's amazed the casualty list wasn't longer than it was. Really amazed.]

Did the people here band together, or was everything done separately.[Causalities are important, but he needs to know if there is a leader here or not.]

[Huh. What's his secret, then? Lots and lots of good tea?]

Mostly separate. Some people stuck with their friends, and there were a couple of groups that tried to keep things in line, but...it was too much of a mess. Not sure if you were told or not, but a lot of people disappeared for practically the entire month. The people who were left here didn't really want to work together.

[Not quite every man for himself, but...close enough. There's no chain of command here.]

[Good tea, an expensive conditioner, and a constant use of a Ribbon so he wouldn't fall asleep.]

No one told me people disappeared for an entire month. Was it seemingly random?

[Well. Zack's screwed, then. He can find a Ribbon somewhere, but good tea and expensive conditioner? Well above his pay grade.]

It sure looked that way, but...[siiiigh] I dunno. There's these guys who say they brought us here to save us, so they might have had something to do with that, but they definitely didn't warn us if they did.

[And this is why Soldiers live in barracks.]

If they brought us here to save us, then they wouldn't be experimenting on us, or outfitting us with collars.

[So they don't break anything. Clearly. And yet, Zack has his own quarters back at the tower. They may resemble an impact crater, but they're his quarters none-the-less.]

Hey, I never said I believed 'em. These guys are worse than Hojo, and nobody like him actually saves anybody.

[Hah. Hahaaa...Zack if you only knew.]

[You really need to learn how to clean a room, Zack.]

I've never seen him save anyone yet. [He agrees with you, is what he means. There is still some concern with this; what is he actually supposed to say to the dead, who seem to not know they're dead?]

...I did not think I would ever speak to you again. You'll have to forgive me for the lack of conversation.

[Hey. He knows how to clean! He just...hates doing it. A lot. Angeal had to drag him by the ear to get him to do it sometimes.

Nod nod. Hojo, saving anyone? Pfft. Not even in a blue moon and that's--okay. Why is Tseng suddenly changing the topic?]

Don't worry about it. [He blinks as the rest of that sentence kicks in, and now there's definitely worry in his eyes. Something happened.] But what do you mean, you thought you'd never talk to me again. Did something happen in Nibelheim or something?

[ooc: Roomies, eh? x3 well then. Tseng better have earplugs because Zack does indeed snore on occasion.]

[It's tough learning how to keep your room clean. Or not, but hey, Zack does need to do a few things multiple times to get it.

But, Hojo would never really save someone. Bring them back as some kind of monster? Sure. But never save. Right now, he doesn't know how to handle this. There were plenty of other people from home on board... why wouldn't they tell him?]

[He can't bring himself to tell him. Not now, anyway.]

[Most things, actually. First time he used a baby Fire materia he got thrown flat on his ass. Now he can use Firaga with barely a flinch.

Staring at you now. You're hiding something, man. Just like Cloud. Why is everyone hiding things from him?! He doesn't get it! Still, he won't press...much.]

Tseng, I've got a phone. I would have called even if I was in Kalm for years or something. The heck did they station me if I couldn't call you?

[Keep hiding it, Tseng. He'll find out eventually and Zack doesn't appreciate being lied to. Not at all.]

[What is he supposed to say to him? "Sorry, old friend, but you were stationed in the Lifestream"? He isn't sure if this is his to tell.]

You were stationed in a place with no reception. I'm not sure right now is the best of times to go talk about the past. I've only just arrived.

[So, can you feel bad about pressing?]

[Well, at least he'd be more...gentle about it than Reno? It's not in either Reno's nature to be nice about things, and one of 'em nearly dropped the topic on Zack's head with all the subtlety of a rampaging Chocobo.]

No reception. Sheesh, you think they'd have upgraded those towers by now or something. [it's more of a thing to lighten the mood, since he does indeed feel bad about pressing. He'd honestly forgotten Tseng had just gotten here.]...You get the tour already? Or a headcount of who's here?

Most of them were destroyed, after a time, though that is still no excuse. [He gives a light lipped smile.]

I haven't gotten the tour, yet. I have gotten the headcount, however.

[Zack can be patient. He can shove it into the back of his mind until Tseng is ready to speak....even if the curiosity will gnaw at him until he gets an answer.]

And people call me lazy. [A sign and a headshake, but then he grins and nods once.] Then I'll come find you and give you that tour. No point in letting you get lost, man.

I'd appreciate it. Where should I meet you?
