[video] ⚙ soul phrase

I ain't sure walkin' around swingin' axe blades at anybody behind me is all that safe. But I can't really just stick anythin' on there and hope for the best.

What do people usually use if they wanna put some kinda guard on a weapon? [Counting off the following points on metallic fingers:] It's gotta be somethin' that ain't gonna get in the way of the thrusters, easy t' get off in an emergency, and lightweight so it don't throw me off balance.

[Monomaru what have you done.]

What d'you guys think?

[He's just going to blink at her for a while.]

It lets you fly?

[Yeah, that's not helping.]

T-that's amazing, though I'm not so sure why I find it so hard to believe. I didn't have that much trouble when you told me about what you were after all.

We definitely need to spend some time fighting together. I would really like to see how you use it.

Unfortunately, it is far to odd a weapon for me to help you with your question. I'm sorry. It's a shame you cannot just summon and unsummon it like servants can with their weapons.

Yes, of the Lancer class which is why I introduced myself as I did.

[He pauses a moment to think, then shakes his head.]

Hakuno, you said? No, I don't believe I've met someone by that name. Is she a master or servant herself?

I will have to keep an eye out for her then. It can't hurt to meet as many of the servants and masters in the tower as possible. At the very least then I can let them know that I have no interest in harming any of them. I've been told there is a servant who calls herself Ruler that I should speak too as well because she keeps track of all the servants and masters in the tower, but I haven't had the opportunity to find her yet.

Is it safe to announce that Hakuno is a master over a system such as this, though? If she is as kind as you say, that might make her a target. Or does she have someone watching out for her? A servant of her own, perhaps?

It's all right. If she has someone of the Saber class watching out for her, then she is most likely in the safest hands possible. Especially, if the Saber in question is the one I have had others tell me about. I knew her once and while it sounds like she may have changed a lot since then, I doubt that her willingness to protect those in her care is one of those things that has changed. It would be her duty as a King.

Dressed in red?

[Lancer seems surprised, but he has been told Saber has changed and the blond hair is right, so he just shrugs it off and moves onto her next question.]

It's not really something we have that much choice in, though I suppose if you asked most servants the answer to that question would be yes. We...we aren't actually real if you want to be technical. I'm just a copy of a hero's soul that was recorded to the Throne of Heroes after he died. When that soul is called into a war or needed for some other reason, the copy of it is made and sent to Earth. Once whatever they are needed for is done, they return to the Throne of Heroes...

..and are erased so that the main soul isn't changed. I really don't see how that is fair especially for a servant who worked so hard--copy or not--to get their wish. What is the point then? It's not like they will be able to remember they got it!

[He pauses to take a deep breath and shakes his head.]

Perhaps I'm just odd to wonder about these things. Honestly, I shouldn't be here. The war ended for me. I shouldn't be having the chance to question these things, and yet here I am.

And I guess that is why I reacted the way I did when you told how you had been made and just expected to do something your whole life without being asked. It's a little to similar too a servant's fate for my comfort.

[Lancer is honestly not sure how to respond to that and so all he can do is sit and stare at the computer terminal for the longest time. To hear that--to hear something he so desperately wanted to hear and from someone he had known only a short time but knew would not lie about such a thing--is a little overwhelming.

Who would have guessed that such an advanced robot and an ancient Irish hero would have so much in common?

Lancer takes a deep breath and smiles at her. Now that the shock has begun to pass, it's easy to see the joy in his eyes.
]

I have no idea how to thank you for that, Labrys. To hear you say that is...

[He stops and shakes his head.]

...it's a gift I don't think I will ever be able to repay. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I just wish there was something I could do for you--something to help lessen your pain, but you seem to have worked through so much of it and grown stronger all ready. I can only hope I have the chance to do the same thing.

There is one thing I do know, though, and that is you are special. It might not be something you or I can name that makes you so, but you are unique and wonderful all on your own. Don't ever doubt that.

[Lancer nods at her.]

I will certainly try. This is all very new to me--the idea that I will have enough time to have friends again and things like that. I don't think it's going to be easy working through all of the emotion, though. I honestly don't know if we were made to worry about these kinds of things, but I am still going to try.

Please be patient with me if it takes awhile. This is all very new to me and I'm only just starting to make the friends I will need to get through all of it.

[He pauses a moment and then laughs.]

How did we ever get from talking about your axe, to this? I'm sorry. I didn't mean to derail your inquiry so much.

There was a time when I had a great many friends, but then I was cursed and things changed. Now it is hard for me to trust what people tell me sometimes especially if it is some form of compliment or flattery. It's even worse if the person I'm speaking to is a woman...

[He pauses and shakes his head to draw himself out of the past.]

I don't know if I know how to make friends anymore, but I would like to think maybe we are moving in that direction....

[He stops suddenly and blushes just a little in embarrassment.]

...if you don't mind that is.

[He can't help but smile at her laughter. He is being rather silly, isn't he?]

I do. It's actually a relief to find someone who is as honest as I am. I've had so many people tell me that I should be less so since I got here. They say it will only get me hurt, but I can't help but continue to be so. It is who I am, who I have always been.

That is what I believe. It's just a shame that it doesn't seem that it is a very common thing any more. I'm really not sure how the world has managed to survive as long as it has with the people in it being so dishonest with everyone.
