001 ☠ Video/Possible Action?
[He's been staring and prodding at the terminal for the longest time, wanting to at least have a basic grasp of its function before fiddling too much with it, though as of right this moment, Barbossa will fully admit (privately) that he really doesn't understand it. Witchery, devilry, some sort of voodoo...He's not entirely sure, and really, given the circumstances, he doesn't really care. What matters is that he's pretty sure it's for communication. And communicate he will.
There are far more important things afoot, thanks to the letter he's tucked haphazardly into the sash around his waist, because in it, the worst is delivered. He cares not for the world, but his ship...That's enough to make his blood boil.
But none of that shows on his face - for now. He's already raged privately, before deciding it is, plainly and simply, false. Instead, he looks more than a little amused at the circumstances, as he taps thoughtfully at the screen with one long, black nail.]
So, it do seem me home managed to get itself blown apart like a dinghy hit with chain shot. Funny, that. [He doesn't believe a word of it, and it's evident in his tone, and the quirk of his mouth.] Ye'd figure there'd be a tad more warning. Trumpets. Horsemen. Jack Sparrow running away from the scene of the crime. Alas, can't say as I remember a speck of any of that.
So what be the truth of it, aye? Did our saviors rapture us from our dying homes, convinced of our purity and contriteness? Be we the lambs before the slaughter? [Hilarious.] Nay, there be more to it than that. And since it seems ye have me at a disadvantage, I'd be thankful for some...Insight.
Audio
An interesting question...
Does it actually matter what the truth is?
Video - The only function he's figured out.
Video
I lean towards believing it to be a ruse. This is not the first of these worlds I have been to, and we had guests from still another, and the world that is claimed to be destroyed whenever they try to convince me to listen to them is the world in which I am not but worm food.
...
So, I would lean towards it being a lie, but not one that is very important right now. You are here. That is what matters first, is it not? So then, what is the next order of business?
Rum?

[Anon Text forever.]
However, if you want some information on this place, look below. I've given you the usual infodump I give newcomers.
This is the Tower of Animus. Four people now run it-Riki, a secretive man who builds the Tower and is in charge of the records, Zo, a small child who can bring souls here, Jason, a sadistic medical doctor who sometimes experiments on the residents. He, I believe, helps transfer your soul when you die. Finally, there’s Ruana, a woman who has been here for thousands of years and doesn’t quite understand human empathy or emotions, and hates it when people go against her. She may seem sweet, but she is capable of removing free will and canalizing her own Administrators.
There used to be a fifth Administrator named Dax. He was the most humane of the bunch and did his best to protect us from Jason and the monsters here. However, when he tried to go against Ruana..she killed and ate him, possibly absorbing his powers in the process. He was a good man.
Death isn’t permanent here. If you die, you’ll just wake up in your bed the next day. However, don’t throw your life away for foolish reasons. For one thing, you’ll probably get punished if you die too many times, and for the other…your body is made up of recycled parts. Only your soul was pulled to this universe. Your body, and the ones you’ll have afterward, are not your original body. That’s why you have the collar. It helps make sure your soul safely stays in your body.
I’m sorry to say that your universe is destroyed. You may see people you know here, but they won’t be from your own universe or point in time. I don’t’ know exactly how our universes were destroyed, but I do know that it was caused by Ruana watching our universes, for some reason.
If you haven’t been to the cafeteria yet, make sure that you eat the oatmeal when you do. If you don’t, you’ll throw up anything else you try to eat until you finish it. However, you can eat anything you want afterwards, and you can add things to the oatmeal to improve the taste.
Monsters roam the Tower at night, and some of the higher floors have monsters that attack if you get too close. If you can’t fight, then I would suggest learning. There are plenty of people here who would be willing to teach you.
[Permavideo]
So ye believe all this, anchor and sails. But here be my question, then, and mark it well. If that be so, where be the proof. If they but build me a body, as ye say, where be me right leg. Can you answer me that.
[Anon Text.]
..Trust me, I didn't want to believe it either. I went here for six months, believing that everything back home was fine before recently learning that our universes are destroyed.
First, your right leg. If you're used to having a peg leg, they probably gave you a peg leg to both save supplies and give you something familiar.
As for the other pieces of evidence, recently, someone from another universe same here, and he said that every who was here had come from a destroyed universe. The person is gone now, but he had no reason to lie to us. The comment wasn't even directed as us residents. You can find footage of that on the network.
Second..my friend went back to his homeworld awhile ago, and everything and everyone was destroyed and dead. I trust that friend of mine with my life, so I accept this as poof nowadays as well.

[Of all the things he didn't expect, 'someone talking like a cliched pirate fantasy novel' hadn't been on the list.]
...What.
[action]
Barbossa pauses in his examination of the terminal and glances up from under his hat, eyes narrowing. He has no idea who this guy is - doesn't really care - outside of the outlandish dress (harr harr look who's talking), and while staring is one thing a man gets used to, when he's using a peg for a leg, that kind of staring will not do.]
Aye, and can I help ye with something, good sir. [Polite enough, but there's a definite edge.]
[action]
[Upon recovering from the initial what the christ, Waver was polite enough himself, albeit with the smallest amused tone to it.]
I don't see many people like you, even in a place like this.

Aye, yet there be those that insist there is evidence of such a thing. Until I see the hellfire meself, I'll be inclined to think otherwise.

Of course there's more to it. Hell, someone told me there's a whole plot to this shit and they've apparently told you, too. [ Yeah, she is assuming helpfulanon up there is the same girl she met. ] Can't really say "it wasn't grand enough", though. Shit happens, right?
Third. o/
Aye, that it do. At all the wrong times for all the wrong reasons. But just because we be trapped here with lazabouts pissing more than they drink means naught to me. And rolling with the tide be against me nature.
Aw, mine is up in the dorms. Actionanigans shall have to wait!
Boo. SOON.
Yes, totally!

[Her sarcasm is legendary--wait, is that a pirate.]
If you ignore the fancy salvation crap they try to spit at you, there ain't too much wrong with that letter. Even that's not a total lie. Salvation is relative, depending on how bad you perceive your fate to be.
video;
Oh, aye, let me rejoice in me lucky fortune. Me ship. Gone. Me crew? Gone. Tortuga? Might as well never have existed. I get me sword and me gun to do naught of what it's used for. Aye, nothing wrong with that at all.
This be not salvation. Better to die on your feet than live the way it's been explained. Except here it's not even dead certain ye'll stay that way. Paradise, I suppose, for a masochist.

Um...our worlds are destroyed, or something. And you're here. And here is pretty much a horrible place. Like, "torture people with fears and ghosts and stuff" kind of horrible.
I-I'm sorry I can't be of more help, the others are better at explaining it than me.

They're about as trustworthy as anyone in charge is, which basically means no, they didn't do it out of the goodness of their hearts. Well, one probably did, but he got killed and eaten by one of the other admins.
Says everything you need to know about this Tower, right?
video
Aye, and so I've already been told. Seems as no one has more to give than little bites and bits that add up to naught.

He's heading for the lift to go get some goddamn food in him, after a week of unintentional fasting, when he passes by Hector Barbossa fussing with a terminal. Funny that. Jack could tell him a thing or two, about pissing people off with those, and how fun it is to press buttons to make words appear. But of course only for a price.
He goes on for maybe five or six steps more when the rest of his brain catches up with the fact that's Hector Barbossa there. Jack stops abruptly, still staring straight ahead.]
Oh bugger all.
[After the soft muttering, he turns on his heel and heads back, unable to resist. He gives Barbossa a disastrously smug smile.]
Oh, that's not giving you trouble, now, is it?
[Action]
And the urge to absolutely slap that smug smile off of Jack's face is...Well, it's enough to make sure he keeps his hands firmly at his sides. No need to start off killing him.
Yet.]
Jack. [He answers with a smile of his own, as fake as his right leg.] The told me ye were here and so it be true. [Much to his great and sorrowful disappointment. He's hoped it was a lie.]
Should have known, when there be talk of worlds ending and finding meself here in this place. Thought I smelled ye, as well.
[Highbar? What's highbar? There will be no classy argument here.]
