I have noticed many amongst us appear concerned about Ruana's next step, namely her siphoning of the souls left on dead worlds.
I can and do understand the will to oppose Ruana, I encourage it. However, this desire I have witnessed of saving the lost souls is quite intriguing, if not misplaced. The vast majority of these souls are people we have never met and will most likely never meet. For that matter we did not even know they existed before stepping into this tower, nor did we have any thoughts for them before seeing that message.
They have had whatsoever no impact on our lives and never will they have any. Nothing binds them to us and what fate will befall them, ultimately is none of our concern. It is their own fight while we have our own fights. Hence I have only one question:
Why do you care?

If you had no conscience, if you were devoid of any morals, would you want to save them? Certainly not.
Would you go out of your way to save them, would you have no conscience and morals? Obviously not.
It is my belief that the fear for your own conscience is what drives you to save them-- Not the other way around. It is your conscience and the morals that shape it, that constraints you to take this course of action. Your desire to save them is only an emanation of this fear.

Still, I want to save these souls. As long as I have a conscience and as long as I have morals I have an obligation to listen to them.
I'd rather embrace my cowardice and help in whatever way that I can manage than doubt myself and do nothing. Wouldn't such a decision simply be more selfish in the end?

You're trying to save them all because your conscience says so. Would you you be to overcome your conscience and go not for what you think is right, but for what you think is in the realm of possibilities-- Would it be more selfless to save a few hundreds people you know you can save, than to pointlessly try to save billions you cannot?
