yup, it's japanese. actually...

now that I think about it, there's a lot of people with japanese names around here. I never really noticed before since it seemed normal. huh.

the red collared people are workers, but they're brainless. the admins come off more like real people. most of them are terrible people, but they're people.

I guess a llot of people were relocated from Japan after the world was destroyed.

I've never thought to count, but it's pretty easy to find out one way. by everyone's rooms there's signs with the names of the people who sleep there on them. if you count all those, you'll know.

that anonymous guy was OP-kun. I mean, there could be anybody going anonymous, but I call anyone who is 'OP-kun.' it's easier like that. I don't think it's an admin, unless Jason suddenly decided he'd like to talk all casual and incognito like, which haha I doubt

[He does browse the network on occasion, as it's a handy source of information at times that will never go away. However, this time the newest update is... curious.

In that the person on the terminal next to him is the one making it. He turns to address them directly.]

It's a standard procedure. Something of a necessity, if you wish to retain some semblance of normalcy in your abilities.

[He starts slightly, turning to face the man at the next terminal.]

[He then pauses, composing himself as well as he can before holding his hand out to the other man.]

I'm Spirit Albarn.

They only respond with force if one resists. If it was your first time, such a thing is of course to be expected.

[The offered hand is taken in a firm grip.]

Xehanort.

[Spirit mirrors Xehanort's grip and engages him in an appropriately confident and assertive handshake.]

It's good to meet you.

[He then releases Xehanort's hand and looks down for a moment before he speaks again. ]

Something doesn't add up. Nobody ever experiments on you for the sake of normalcy.
How long have you been here?

Likewise. It's always good to have new allies in such a place.

Ah, I have been here for about four months, by the local reckoning. I'm still relatively new myself, one could say.

Allies?

[Well, if he wasn't suspicious before he certainly is now. His eyes dart around the room for a moment before he takes a step towards the other man. He looks up, meeting Xehanort's gaze and speaking in a low voice.]

I'm guessing you were relocated too. Where are you from?

Associates? Acquaintances? Whatever word you would prefer to call it. People whom one knows. There are times of suffering for many. You'll come to understand soon enough, I'm sure.

[He lowers his voice to match the other's, although he hardly sees a reason for it.]

One world out of an infinite sea. The name is meaningless. If one believes what they say, it no longer exists.

[He offers Xehanort an understanding nod as he listens. ]

An infinite sea of... Are you talking about multiverse theory? I wasn't sure if I believed in any of that. [He shrugs, sighing dejectedly. ] It's hard not to right now.

I'm sorry your world was... [He trails off, choking off a sob. ] Mine's gone too.

As one who has travelled to countless worlds, I know it is more than a theory. However, each world comes to that knowledge in its own time. Yours may well have been on the cusp, if such theories existed.

[He avoids the subject of his world's apparent end, as it doesn't particularly bother him at all.]

[It sounds completely insane she realizes, but she knows that voice. It's deeper than she's used to, but that inflection, that tone was the same. She really did hope she was right.]

Spirit? Are you... Is that your name?

What? Yes! It is! How did you know?

[How did she know? Had they met? They must have! She did sound eerily familiar. Yes, they must have known each other. But how? Oh God, he hates it when this happens.]

And you are... [He trails off, laughing somewhat nervously.]

I'm sorry... I'm not very good with names.

[She doesn't bother attempting to explain it, she's not really sure she has the words to right now. But if she's right, that means this is probably the Other Stein's Spirit, and she knew that he looked well enough like her to mean that seeing was probably easier.

So she turned on the video feature, and smiled into the camera.] I figured you'd never believe me otherwise.

[Was that-- No. It couldn't be!]

Stein?

Is that-- The world just ended! How did you find the time to give yourself a sex change?
And why?

[He emits a quick sigh of relief. In retrospect, he's not sure why he bothered to ask. Because why not give yourself a spontaneous sex change right after the apocalypse?]

It's good to see you.

[She chuckles. Hard not to considering that is the conclusion Spirit jumps to.] No, Spirit, I've always been female; I'm from a different universe than you. In my universe, you're a woman too. However, I met the Stein you probably know - he was a he for starters. He's gone from the tower now, though...

[And almost as an afterthought:] It's good to see you too.

He was here? Why didn't he--

[He exhales slowly, taking a moment to compose himself as well as he can.] I know we... lost touch for a while, but I thought he would have at least mentioned this place.

[And after a brief moment of contemplation.] I guess this means parallel universes do exist. Is the tower some sort of gateway?

I think he would still be out of touch with you; he was completely insane and under Medusa's influence while he was here. I spent most of my time trying to make sure he didn't hurt anyone, or himself.

...I suppose you could call it a gateway. I haven't had much time to give it a lot of thought. And I suppose I don't entirely care to, I just want to leave.

But-- No! That can't be right. We fought Medusa. He wasn't-- I would have known if she'd influenced him.

[He pauses for a moment, breathing somewhat shakily. ]

I'm sorry. He must have been from a different universe.

[He pauses again, choking back his tears as well as he can. ] How was he when he left the tower?

[She pauses for a while, trying to think of a nice way to say it.] Bad. He was... He wasn't even himself.

[Stein forces herself to smile, because otherwise she honestly thinks she might cry and she can't not with Spirit here because she needed to be the strong one because he would need her to be.] But you're right, he must have been from another universe from you. [Even though she knows it might not be the truth, because he told her about how he killed Medusa, just like she had, just like Spirit had. But what's one lie in the face of not having to resort to tears?] Our universes must be similar; I fought Medusa too. Twice.

...Oh. That probably deserves some explanation. When I first got here, we were sent home, and I had to fight him on my own too. It's a shame you weren't here then.

[He nods, screwing his eyes shut for a moment. ]
I guess I should have known that one of you would succumb to the madness in a parallel universe.
Which isn't to say that I think you're-- Well, you seem relatively sane right now.
At least I hope you are. How are you?

[He swallows, doing his level best to force a smile. ]

In any case, I'm glad to hear that your world didn't come to an end as well. You could probably go back home if you wanted to.

I wouldn't want to go back. Medusa was the only one left so far as I know. Just him and me. I couldn't do that. I'd end up no better off than the other one.

[She wants to ignore the question of how she is for a little while longer, partially because she doesn't entirely know the answer to that question herself.] ...Where are you right now? We might as well meet face to face.

But if you can't go back to your world and you don't want to stay here, where will you-- Never mind. You're right. We might as well meet face to face.

I'm at one of the terminals on the first dorm level. Where are you?

[Rather than answering him, she shuts off her terminal, and starts climbing down from the library to his location, leaning slightly on a nearby wall.]

Behind you, naturally.

You'll get used to them doing that eventually.

But you can't 'get used to it'!

If you just accept people experimenting on you without your consent, nothing will ever change.

I guess that's true but when you miss collar check ups, you start feeling really shitty. Besides, this isn't as bad as the real experiments they put you through.
