[ Sasori has always been good with his hands. Very, very good, really (as much as is expected of an artist). Unfortunately, he is what one might refer to as 'old school'. Computers and such technology as he was staring at at the moment were rare to come by in Sunagakure.
He had never really operated a computer, unless it was one of those machines that had a big red button which read POWER or DO NOT PRESS, their functions obvious.
Whatever he was staring at right now, though, intrigued him. He could see hiragana scattered all over the keyboard, and bits of kanji, but-- ]
...Where are the remaining five thousand odd kanji?
[ Ridiculous. Where was the rest of this machinery that had the remaining alphabet?
And in trying to figure out what it did, Sasori presses a few buttons experimentally. ]

[ Which is when he presses something and it starts recording him... Sasori notices this and stares at the screen, continuing to press all the keys while staring at the screen, wondering if pressing anything will do something. Like-- Stop recording him?
Help? ]

-and then Sasori asks him a question that gives him pause. He recalls how the puppet master had been at the facility, and there was also his partner...]
You and I, no. [A vague, but truthful answer.] I simply know what you will become.
no subject
These are only fleeting thoughts that drift like the sands on the dunes, though, and it is easy to discard them for the cryptic answer the other gives him. Oddly enough, there's a slight tug at the corner of his lips then. ]
Mm~? And what would that be?
no subject
He shakes his head and answers blithely.] It is too soon to divulge that information. You will find out, at a later time.
For now, knowing enough to survive should suffice.
no subject
Hm. I suppose I will... [ His tone betrays a hint of disappointment at not being told right away, yet he decides it would be for the best. After all, there was no point in developing a bias before achieving one's goals.
And knowing enough to survive, hm? Sasori wasn't mistaken when he told himself he never checked into such a place willingly, 'rescued' or not. It was most likely 'not', too. ]
You are from the future, then, and from my 'world'. [ Here he eyes the other carefully, as if searching for any sign of familiarity. ] Sunagakure?
no subject
After recovering mentally, he decided to keep up the façade for the time being.]
Yes. I am… the Fifth Kazekage.
[Gaara stopped wearing the Suna headband after he was elected Kazekage, per the expected custom. Kage used their hats to represent the village they led. Headbands were worn by shinobi of the regular ranks. Gaara didn’t wear his hat on a regular basis, but it had appeared in the trunk at the end of his bed. He could use it for proof, if needed.]
You have defected from the Sand at this point. Correct?
no subject
The Fifth already? [ Sasori smiles at the news, amused. The Third was sitting in his trunk. ]
Hn. Three months ago, to be exact.
[ Sasori slid his fingers across the smooth corners of the keyboard, wondering how much stronger the Fifth was than the Third. He would love to find out, but not today. Not yet. He had a lot of exploring to do before embarking on any new projects. ]
How long have you been here?
no subject
Yes. [He assumed Sasori knew who the Fourth had been. But since Gaara wasn’t overtly fond of talking about his father, he wouldn’t volunteer any information, unless asked.]
I see.
[So many events would happen after Sasori’s defection. It was strange, knowing more about the other than Sasori himself did. Gaara had experienced, firsthand, how it felt to receive information on future occurrences, especially when they affected him directly. Sasori’s assimilation into the Akatsuki, his blatant betrayal of the village, his death in battle against Elder Chiyo and Sakura Haruna of the Leaf – all of it. He held that knowledge, and it was pertinent to the former Sand shinobi. Gaara could be cruel and use that information to his own advantage, and yet – something held him back.]
I arrived yesterday. [He answered truthfully.] Do you believe the claim that our world was destroyed?
no subject
At the date of Gaara's arrival, though, Sasori quirks an eyebrow. The question, however, makes him sigh, as if the answer was extremely obvious. ]
I was brought here from before your time. If our world was destroyed then, would it make sense for you to be standing there talking to me?
no subject
…Of course. You’re unaware of the time distortion.
[If he hadn’t seen evidence of it from his time at the facility, he wouldn’t have believed this in principle. The parameters of space/time jutsu weren’t thoroughly defined, since very few shinobi had those abilities. But then again, this reality didn’t follow the logistics of their world.]
The letter didn’t state when the world was supposedly destroyed. It could have taken place in the future.
...Stephen Hawkings, halp |8
It could have taken place in the future, in which case neither of us needed 'rescuing' before our time. That, and this-- [ He points to his collar, which is coincidentally of the same color as Gaara's. ] tell me that we are here not simply because a good Samaritan decided to save us from an apocalypse.
Sasori, you're such an old fart 8|
...They would still need rescuing in the future, given the war and everything. He isn't going to discuss that, though, for obvious reasons.]
Not these individuals, no. These constraints are likely a means for control. I had initially thought it would be correlated with the color.
[Gaara gives into the sudden impulse of grazing his fingers against his own collar. The tubes set the design apart from the one at the facility. Either way, he is stuck with a collar, and he doesn't like it.]
I find it curious that these collars don't seal or hinder our abilities in some way.
hey hey now 8(
Now, watching as Gaara touched his own collar, Sasori's mouth forms a thin line. He was not going to touch his own unless he was to break it. But something about it left him with a hunch that breaking the collar, or even damaging it, would result in dire consequences. --Consequences he was not prepared to meet just yet, seeing as how he only got here. ]
Then it is not unlike a tag on the animals bred at conservatories. [ There is resentment lacing his tone of voice then. ]
The people in this tower may merely be subjects in a large scale experiment. [ Karma was a bitch, in Sasori's opinion. ]
What? You type like my old man.
Animals… [He quirks a brow in bemusement at that word.] I doubt procreation is their intention, but I suppose it’s a possibility.
[Here, he nods with agreement. It was what he suspected in the beginning, and after being told about the experiments that took place, it was just about as good as a confirmation.] They are, essentially. Experiments are conducted on the captives on a regular basis, from what I have observed.
[He releases a light grunt that mildly resembles relief.] The experiments here at the tower don’t seem to be as emotionally scarring, fortunately. The level of threat, however, is similar.
I could be your-- /SHOT
Animals, why not? He didn't mean it literally, though, and Sasori's reaction mirrors Gaara's, except he has more prominent brows to show it. His next words are mumbled, mostly to himself: ] Everything is a possibility. [ When you hardly knew anything at all. Possibilities and probabilities-- statistics. Sasori hated statistics when he wasn't given a fixed number of variables to work with. ]
Captives. [ The corner of his mouth tugs in a little smirk. Aptly put, that is exactly what they are. Lab rats and guinea pigs. Or worse, somebody else's toys.
The grunt doesn't go unnoticed, however, and it catches Sasori's attention. While it is partly relieving to know that the experiments are not as emotionally scarring, Gaara's reaction nags at him, and his curiosity is piqued.
He tips his head to an angle by a few degrees, observing the other, eyes questioning. ]
As emotionally scarring as...? [ Perhaps he hadn't imagined that flicker of a reaction he had observed earlier...
As for the 'experiments'-- While they were an inconvenience, he wondered if it would help him with his personal agenda... ]
-hero? :3
[The corner of his lips quirk up in a partial smirk, one that completely lacks humor. He knows he is being watched, observed, and it doesn’t faze him. He isn’t usually so careless with his speech, but in his present state, he lacks the capacity to care. Let Sasori get as many answers from him as he is willing to reveal, at this moment.] As emotionally scarring as other places or experiments.
[He can’t help but feel curious about the other, wondering what had happened to send him running out of the Sand. The living conditions in Suna were harsh, and as such, most of the villagers had little sympathy to spare for others, despite being neighbors and comrades. There had been little information given on Sasori’s background, save his parents and paternal grandmother. Why had he killed the Third Kazekage? What reason did he have to betray the Sand to the Akatsuki?
Those weren’t questions that Gaara wanted to ask at present. Maybe later, when his curiosity was peaked more than just lukewarm interest.
He casually looks further down the screen, catching sight of some of the other conversations going on. Not everyone is being particularly helpful, he silently notes. That is just people’s nature, from what he has observed over the years.]
It appears you’ve elicited help from another. Assuming that individual is competent, you should be able to acquire whatever information you desire.
faaaa---- neverminddd~ But. Hero? REALLY? >.>
The Fifth being subjected to experimentation. [ His brows level then, that distant look once again taking its place. ] Not very impressive.
[ And as for Ssori's reasons for doing what he did-- well, Gaara could try getting them out of him. He has not heard of the Akatsuki beyond mere rumors and did not entertain ideas of joining them as of yet. Reasons for what he will do could only be speculated upon. ]
I would hope so. Should they prove otherwise... [ The words hang in the air as Sasori actually smiles, features eerie. If Signless proved to be incompetent, there would be amusement. For him. ]
Hands off my mommy. >: It’s a song reference. XD
[He nods at that next point being made.] For the most part, computers seem easy to hack into. All it requires is time.
[Hearing his critique, Gaara smiles just then. But it isn’t a smile filled with happiness or pleasantries – it’s full of irony and dark amusement.] Is that how you feel. [He tilts his head to the side a bit.] I will be sure to send your regards to your future comrades. Your partner, in particular, was tormented by some experiments enough to affect his functionality. [Truthful words, but uttered with cruel intentions. He would have been surprised with himself, if he had his normal mindset.]
…Then you will discard them?
There was an Erique Iglesias meme on bakerstreet a while back /snickers XD
I would, wouldn't I?
[ And if the mention of such a future were meant to scare Sasori, then it wasn't entirely working. The puppet master only chuckles, slightly amused at the attempt to threaten. And since when did he give a damn about his 'partners' or 'comrades'?
Sasori shrugs ever so slightly at the news. ] His loss.
[ As to what he might do to the person who agreed to show up to help him: ] Perhaps. [ Take 'discard' whichever way you wanted to. ]
I was actually thinking of the song "Holding Out For A Hero" but I like the Iglesias one a lot too!
Apathetic, just as Sakura had told him, Gaara mused to himself. He still didn’t understand why Sasori had allowed himself to be killed – if that was what really happened – when he had no emotions to be burdened with.
He just shrugged slightly. Back at the facility, he acted more like a defender of justice, but here, things were different. He was no longer who he thought he was. He didn’t have the same responsibilities as before. He was… He couldn’t answer that question yet. Once again, he would need to figure out his own identity, before someone else tried to lead him astray.]
Absorb as much information as you can, then. Lest you waste your time.
For now, I have other matters to tend to. You can contact me in the future, if you wish. [He gave Sasori a slight nod of dismissal, and then the screen went black as he turned off the computer.]
