I have noticed many amongst us appear concerned about Ruana's next step, namely her siphoning of the souls left on dead worlds.

I can and do understand the will to oppose Ruana, I encourage it. However, this desire I have witnessed of saving the lost souls is quite intriguing, if not misplaced. The vast majority of these souls are people we have never met and will most likely never meet. For that matter we did not even know they existed before stepping into this tower, nor did we have any thoughts for them before seeing that message.

They have had whatsoever no impact on our lives and never will they have any. Nothing binds them to us and what fate will befall them, ultimately is none of our concern. It is their own fight while we have our own fights. Hence I have only one question:

Why do you care?

Very well, I'll assume this is a serious question and not a distinct sign of a narcissist and/or sociopath.

I care because I do know some of the souls to which you refer. I know and care about people who know and care about them in turn, and dislike the idea of seeing my friends suffer in any capacity.

As to the ones I don't know and may never meet? I feel a sense of empathy for the lost and victimized. Those who would be hurt by forces such as Ruana are those I wish to protect. Even if this new information were not a factor I would still have sought methods to restore their worlds as well as our own.

Why am I not surprised? Never mind, it's none of my business how insane anyone is.

[Until they make it his business one way or another, apparently.]

Generally speaking, I have faith in people. I choose to believe that they are largely kind or at least not morally bankrupt. Even so, I know cruelty and hatred exist in humanity. It would be stupid to think every living person on every world is incapable of even the most unthinkable cruelty.

I would still save a hundred cruel individuals if it meant also saving as many or more that are better than that.

I prefer to think of it as realism; neither a pessimist nor an optimist. I have seen the worst my world has to offer, been witness and subject to both unimaginable cruelty and immeasurable kindness.

Yes, distasteful traits run through humanity like some kind of plague. But it would be incorrect to assume that the worst of people are all there is to them.

Kindness is not always given with something expected in return. Some people act like that simply because they want to. I for one expect nothing out of helping those left on their worlds; the fact that they would be able to survive is enough of an end result for me to be satisfied.

Are we really going to argue semantics to that extent?
