Are meaningless items the common reward for enduring the trials this place has to offer, or is there a deeper significance to these things?

My apologies if this question has been asked every time there are new people about. Please feel free to make your responses as pedantic as this question must be.

people randomly get things from home all the time around here. theyre either being used to mess with us or someone genuinely wants us to have our things back

I find this varies, depending on how much significance one is willing to attach to such items.

I suppose if I had a better sense of myself such an item may have more significance. As it is, it seems to be of little use or meaning.

It makes me wonder if any such item given would be significant at all...

Sephiroth would have thought better to express any feeling of incompleteness like that but it's on the other users head.]

You could believe the items are used to taunt, being unreal. You could also believe they are intended to remind, rather than directly relate.

In both cases significance depends on belief.

And with no context, it is merely an inert illusive lump. Perhaps if they'd left a note explaining what the item was and why it was significant then I would have reason to feel one way or another about its existence.

Some sort of symbol on a ring and chain. I suppose it might have meant something before. I don't have it with me so I'm afraid I can't show you...

It really depends. Sometimes they're just nice to have, sometimes they have a deep significance... and sometimes they're made to scare you or upset you.

So it is essentially random, but it is meant to be an item related somehow to your person?

Basically. Everything I've gotten has been connected to me in some way, even if it took me a while to figure it out.

Perhaps if I'm fortunate enough to learn more about myself then it will become more apparent.

That's strange. Most of us remember things from before we got here. Do you know why you've forgotten, at least?

I've only ever gotten items with a lot of meaning in them.

There's no need. Regardless of whether I recover my past or not, it isn't holding me back from anything.

So far it's merely been frustrating. There's no permanent death, and there's been more questions than answers.
