marchwarden: (❧ the trivialities of language)

❦ One - [video]

[ After much hesitation on his part to even look at the odd device given to him by his captors, the proud marchwarden allows his curiosity to get the better of him. He tinkers with this odd stone for a moment or two before his confused image suddenly appears upon screen. Looking quite unsure and almost fearful of this object, Haldir speaks in a low hushed tone. ]

Mani naa ta? [ He murmured to himself, not entirely sure if this weird stone was active or not.] I've seen anything like it before...

Is this some sort of sorcery?

[ Still studying this odd thing with curious gaze, Haldir accidentally sets the communicator upside down as he speaks into it. ]

Hello? Does this ridiculous thing truly work?

[ A frustrated sigh escaped him as he rests his chin in his hands. ]

I see no point in these devices. Are we meant to use them for our amusement? If so, I am not easily amused.

[This man seems interesting. If anything, he looks almost like someone from home, minus the ears.]

What was that you were saying before?

[Not even close. Wutai, actually, but he'll always say Midgar if given the chance.]

I've never heard of Sindarin, but it's a beautiful language. What's the name of your homeland?

[It's the sort of smile Tseng would show, and one that he's going to show right now.]

This place must be very different then your home, though I have found that there can be magic, here. Different sorts of magic at a time, but many nonetheless.

[The same could be said for Tseng, as well. The same traits, the way they spoke, the same small smile. It was interesting to see.]

Even in the most unexpected places. [He gives a small nod.]

I've seen people summon power creatures, here, while others can heal with a single word. I do not know if the people in charge here are capable of controlling those powers. There's a big difference between having magic within you, and being able to use it as an outside source. Which do you tend to use?

[With all of the apparently crazy people in this place, it is nice to see someone civilized, mannered, and clearly able to keep their emotions at bay and dealing with things logically.][Tseng has yet to seen hide or hair of the administrators. They are talked about enough that he expects them to show up eventually.]

That will be useful here. With the monsters running about, and I know it does take Materia a little bit to regroup, going to a healer, rather then having to go to the ones in charge for help... [He shakes his head.]

[Tell him about it. Everyone he's talked to that's not from home has gone crazy on him.]

Some of them have, already. It seems in the past six months, the people here have, at one point, stopped giving food to everyone. Now, people try to collect it or hunt for it, as best they can.

The people who run this tower are more monstrous then the monsters running around it.

It may be better to speak in person about them, though I always assume they can hear everything that's said within the tower.

If they monitor the communicators, then they must monitor the rooms. [He raises his hand to his chin, tilting it on it in thought. There were always blind spots, though; he'd worked too long within ShinRa to know that nothing was ever fully seen.]

Back home, we had cameras that could see into every room, no matter what kind it was. The living spaces are the ones that are most needed watching, though.

...So, yes. They could be watching us as we sleep. There are some places that I've found that seem to have more privacy then others. The meadows, for one. Or the morgues.

Only the dead are in the morgue. And the meadows seems to be a place that has no monsters in it, from what I've heard and seen. In all... I suppose you could call them boring to look at.

They might have the upper hand, but no one ever said that they were smart.
