[She grins, rolling her eyes.]

I'm fine!

How do you know that?

[Oh no. Word vomit. He can feel it. Keep it together, Vantas.]

With all the shit that's been happening--how do you know they didn't do something to her? Or to you, bringing you back? Or--

[He hasn't slept. He can't think. Its taking every ounce of his self control to keep his hands from shaking.]

[Oh. That was a slip. Well, it was a sincere slip, so he continues on the train of thought, still pale.]

The spider! I mean, if the Tower put the spider here in the first place, what if they're sicking her on people for a reason?

[She's... Frowning.]

[He pulls his hand away and stands, moving to block her way to the door preemptively.]

[He takes a deep, shaky breath, looking...well, pretty god damn pathetic. Here goes nothing.]

She's mine.

[She actually doesn't make for the door at all. She's just sort of gaping at him blankly.]

[He does his best to not be a huge wriggler about this, but his jaw is twitching.]

You remember when they did all those freaky experiments, and they claimed they were sending rewards out afterward?

Well. She was mine. She's been here ever since.

[WOW WHAT.

It takes her a second to process this, and then slowly but surely, the hurt starts to set in.]

Why didn't you tell me?

[Karkat can feel it, and it breaks some of his resolve. His jaw twitches more frequently.]

[Oh wait, maybe he shouldn't say that...but then again, it wasn't like he could lie to Terezi anyway.]

--knowing your history with Vriska. I didn't know how you'd react.

[Okay, maybe this isn't as terrible as she's assuming it is. That is a pretty valid reason.]

How were you feeding her?

[Oh. His heart nearly stops.]

[He backs up to lean against the door and stuffs his hands in his pockets. After a moment, he sighs with resignation and speaks.]

I--got desperate. She wouldn't eat. So... [He swallows. He can't say it to her face, he knows how it looks considering her history, so he immediately spits out an apology to avoid throwing Vriska under the bus.] Look, I'm sorry. It wasn't supposed to get this out of hand. She took to the monsters in the forest and then -- I don't know, she started hunting on her own.

[And now she's looking a bit on edge, though at least the apology is something.]

So what? Did you feed her or not?

Of course I fed her, what the fuck else was I supposed to do? Let her eat me? Let her wander like she is now?

Whoever wandered too close was spiderfood. As long as I didn't recognize them.

[Her eyes narrow.]

She started feeding herself for a while. I guess because my feedings weren't frequent enough, because frankly, I hate the job. So I stopped completely once she started that. Now...I don't know what happened.

[He looks away.]

But it wasn't me.
