The children, obviously having their curiosity piqued by this suggestion, told their parents or grandparents they they weren't scared. What could possibly happen to them? They had their companions to protect them!
The adult would then go on to tell them about an old man dressed in a long yellow coat with a poofy white collar who wandered the town at night, looking for naughty little children. His name is Hypno.
'Why is his name Hypno,' they'd ask. They were told that, when they found a naughty child out past their curfew, he would hypnotize them! Yes, them and their pet. And he would lead them away his home in a cave just outside of town.
Once he had all the naughty children in his cave? He would gobble them up!!
The children who were scared by the story would run inside, crying about not wanting to be eaten. The children who weren't went crying inside too, because their parents would then resort to taking away dessert if they didn't.
